steam is decoding the game on my r1 as we speakcan't wait!

Holy .... Skyrim caused my M11x R2 to overheat and shutdown TWICE.
It's causing my laptop to get so hot, it physically burned my hand when I touched it.
I've disabled overclocking completely to try and isolate what's going on. -
@_@ thats not a good sign. anyone else having a problem like that?

I just tried and tested the game for about 45 minutes on my R1! Its absolutely great!
The game itself put the settings on high. I left it at that and started the game. It is playable on default high but I don't recommend it. After the tutorial when I got outside for the first time I restarted the game on default medium. Still looks great and runs very smooth. I tried out a few different settings ranging from medium-ultra and concluded that for now I play the game on HIGH on my R1 with AA/AF turned off and it runs good enough for me
Some people will probably prefer the default medium settings for some extra fps, but I think high runs pretty smooth as well.
Hope this helps for all the R1 owners!
Edit: CPU is OC with BIOS, GPU stock -
I can tell tha same story as vortexblade, played for almost 1 hour and my temps are below 50oC amazing!
Im gonna set the game to high and AA AF off because the defeault is high settings with AA 8 AF 8
Im gonna open fraps also to see the framerate
SKYRIM!! -

Runs like a champ on my M11x R3
-
I disabled overclocking completely in the BIOS and the laptop stopped overheating, but my framerate dropped to an unbearable 10 FPS. -
Im getting avg of 25 FPS on medium/high settings on r1
Darkdomino, sad to hear skyrim is overheating your m11x, what temps are you getting while playing/idle? -
This sounds quite promising guys. What should I expect for FPS with an M11x R2 core i5 with 8Gb RAM... CPU oc'd and GPU oc'd (also running throttlestop)?
-
I have an MR3 and its choppy as hell with nvidia graphics forced on and low graphic settings. I have a feeling somethings amiss but can't tell what yet!
-
m11x r3 i mean
-
what processor is in your r3?
Also, are you OCd in the bios and using Throttlestop? -
have been playing for a while.
- AA off, AF off, texture high, raidal blur high, shadow high, decal ultra, view distance's setting are all at medium -
getting around 25-40, so far so good
-
My video of the game on the R3 was done on a low end core i5 and the performance is really really nice.
Skyrim, on the Alienware M11xR3 - YouTube -
I'm playing it on Ultra settings, 8x A.A. and 16x Ani. Filtering, All Water Reflexes, Blur on Medium, Shadows High, Textures High, Decal Ultra. Distances: all at maximum.
Playing very smoothly. This is the best game EVER, and the realism is awesome. Dude, the M11X is a little beast! -
-
Yeah there were two exe files in my skyrim folder so had to sort both out and now it's smooth. it is very good and I reckon when i get my extra laptop fan i will overclock and work on it to get some high end graphics
-
-
yeah i tried it on medium and it ran beautifully. decided to give high settings a try. there is a noticeable difference in fps. but it still runs pretty smooth. i can assume that high runs at around 25-35 fps while medium is probably considerably higher . 30+ fps at all times.
-
yeah it get that too, high is absolutely fine for me. Can't argue with it seeing as its a high end pc game that runs on an ultra portable laptop. I can play Skyrim on the go anywhere now (as long as I have my cable haha)
-
You guys are not having trouble with game volume? its too low?
-
I'm running with 4X FXAA and 4X AF and my framerate is very solid 30ish. It drops to the low 20's sometimes but it's rare. I'm sure if I turn off antialiasing these dips will go away. I just love how this game looks.
My issue is the slight mouse lag. Even disabling vertical sync and mouse smoothing in SkyrimPrefs.ini doesn't fix it. -
Are you guys using an external monitor?
-
-
Usually I don't have any lag though. -
all i can say is i installed it on my m11x r1 cpu bios oced and it runs beautifully on medium native res output to my lcd tv. probably looks as good as it would if i had it for my xbox to be honest.
ah joy. -

Even though its on high settings I noticed some strong pixellation in the shading and shadows. anyone know how to improve this im not sure what option to tweak
-
Because the sound volume is a bit low, I play with headphones and the sound is very nice then. I think the speakers of the m11x just aren't loud enough.
-
I installed Skyrim last night and it set to high automatically, so I turned off AF, AA and FXAA and it runs on high fluidly with all effects on. Volume was awful too and I don't think it's the M11x as it's loud as anything on SWTOR so it must be Skyrim in game volume issues. I just stick on my headphones and it's fixed

My Skyrim m11x R1 tweaking guide
I just did some more in depth testing with Skyrim and fraps. Here are my conclusions:
My settings:
AA 2x
AF 8x
Texture Quality: High
RadialBlur: High
Shadow Detail: Medium-high (not sure yet)
Decal Quality: Ultra
Water: All ON
View Distance: Default high
With these settings I get around 20-25 fps outside. When the game has to load new objects the fps will drop to 15, but I can live with that. Inside the fps will be around 40 with hardly any drops below 30.
Below is a more in depth explanation
Antialiassing: This is one of the biggest fps killers. Although there isn't a big difference on a 11" screen, the egdes of objects will become smoother with higher AA values. AA 0 will give me outside between 20-24 fps. AAx2 drops this with 0-2 fps. AAx4 and 8 will drops this below acceptable levels. My recommendation 0-2x AA (I use 2x)
Anisotropic Filtering: This will sharpen texturs further away from the character. With the gt335m it won't matter much for the perfomance if you use 0 or 16x AF. Even 2xAF will make the textures look much better though. My recommendation 2x-16x AF (I use 8x).
Shadows: This will make the shadows look more detailed. The difference in quality between medium and high isn't big. The performance between medium and high is around 3-4 fps outside. Ultra will drops the fps to unacceptable levels and won't look much better. My recommendation: medium or high (I use medium).
Texture Quality: Seriously, just high! The game looks much better and it saves you 0-1 fps.
Radial blur: Will blur the screen in combat when you get hit. I never notice slowdowns so high for me.
Decal Quality: This will make spell/weather effects look better. I have yet to test the diffence between the settings.
FXAA: off (keep this off, I think the game looks better without FXAA and it will run better)
Water: Doesn't seem to make a difference, so all on.
View distances: default high, ultra will take about 5 fps away.
I hope this helps you m11x r1 users and if I find any important tweaking options I'll come with an update! -
at the moment I get very jaggedy edged shadows when in buildings so they are pixellated. was hoping to combat this but unsure what setting to change. hopefully somebody here will have a simple answer.
-
No matter what I set shadows to, I get pixelated shadows all over the place. It's not very noticeable, but every now and then it jumps right out at you. I also get some strange shadow behavior where shadows transform randomly and kinda "redraw" themselves while you're standing still. Like I said though, it's a rare occurance.

Skyrim: Jagged Shadows Fix -
tried these fixes but not too great really fps drop and shadows flicker like mad. I think this works better with a full on pc spec that can handle pretty much anything. M11X r3 is only a wee thing. Hope the makers produce a smoother fix soon and it doesn't affect the FPS as i have mine running great. thanks for the link though Slickdude80 it was pretty handy and appreciate the time you took
