After 5.5 hours of to-and-fro with Dell support over the phone today (and I'm not even exaggerating), i managed to sort out a replacement for my M11x R2:

    M11x R3
    Intel Core i5 2467M 1.6GHz
    6GB DDR3 1333MHz
    320GB 7200RPM SATA 3
    Nvidia 1GB 540M with Optimus
    Intel Advanced-N WiFi Link 6205
    Accidental Damage Service 1 Year

All for $760 USD inc tax with next business day delivery!

You Americans might not see it, but for an Aussie... Oh yea baby, feeling good!

Well the great thing is that i'm in the US now for holidays, so i get the US prices and get to return back to Oz having spent 1/2 of what it would normally have cost me :D

    //Edit: I just checked the Aust store, and i saved $1,000!!! :O

That's a great deal bro, well done. I don't think you'll ever see an Alienware go for that cheap in Australia no matter how hard you try! I'm sure it was worth 5.5 hours work. ;)

EDIT: Just re-read the title and it made me smile. Such an Aussie thing to say... love it!

Um don't you mean double the price? :p I didn't know about an e-tax though, just assumed Dell Australia charged more because we can't buy from the US store unfortunately :(

The prices in Australia are ridiclous, dell must be making so much (especially considering the currency). I bought mine from America for under $1300 - same exact config in Aus costs $2000!!

Have fun with your R3 :D

    Haha Aussie members unite?

I re-did the same config on the Dell Australia website, and it would have cost me $1,800. I'm very happy :p

Yes and this wouldn't be happening if Dell US was allowed to ship to other countries, Dell AU has just inflated the prices due to lack of competition. Back when the dollar was 0.8, it was fair enough (we paid an extra 200-300), but now its just ridiculous. Next time I need a new AW I'm just going straight to eBay (its a saving of about 800).

YES! I propose we band together, stick it to the man, boycott Alienware AU and purchase from the US!!! ;)

But seriously, how can they get away with ripping us off like that? I guess it is probably the lack of competition.

Just found another example of how we are screwed over.
DLC for BF3 is costing $15 USD, and Australians have to pay $24.
    Source: origin store.
