So in your opinion, is it worth upgrading from R1 to R2? Or wait for R3?

So is an i7 worth the upgrade from an SU7300 overclocked to 1.73ghz? Would like to know what R2 owners think, and what R1 owners think.

Nah, I would wait for the r4 - it will have a hexacore processor!

Seriously though - It's stupid to wait in the PC gaming arena, there are upgrades on current tech every few months. Have a look at what the r1/r2 is capable of, and if it does what you want to do buy it, and if it does not, don't buy it and look for something else.

I will wait for r3, cause update to i7 is not serious for me. I want to see usb 3.0, and new gpu + better screen. Cause i expect to have 4 physical cores...

Short answer: No, there is almost no circumstance where it is worth upgrading from an R1 to an R2. The cost would be astronomical in comparison to the performance increase. In the vast majority of applications tested so far the R1 and R2 are pretty much indistinguishable in performance. You can count the games/apps that truly benefit from the R2 upgrade on one hand, and for many of them the boost isn't really game changing.

In the end this is a personal decision, but consider that the R2 costs $300 more base than the R1, and to sell your R1 you will take a substantial loss, you could easily be looking at $600+ in cost to sell off an R1 and get an R2, that is pretty hard to justify for a few more FPS in 3 or 4 games.

Chances are the next refresh will be a GPU one, and then we really will see significant performance boosts in all apps and games.

We have threads which posed this question. Please use the search function. In the end, it is your decision and only you can decide if you want to wait for yet another release. As others have pointed out - its somewhat pointless as new tech releases happen every day... you'll wait forever if you keep pushing a purchase back...

    Both are very capable systems...
