I am no longer under warranty, but they are fixing hinges regardless of that. Only problem is, they want me to send it to them. I am wondering if anyone else has gotten their m11x that was out of warranty fixed like this? Really, I hate the thought of not have my laptop for 2 weeks, especially because classes are in session and I am taking 3 online classes.
So has anyone gone thru this, and is there any alternatives to my dilemma?
Thanks

I think sending the laptop in for hinge replacement is standard for out of warranty customers.

That's weird. I got my hinges replaced about two weeks ago and they came to me for an in-house technician or whatever. Mine's been out of warranty for a while too. You could always call Dell or Alienware tech service and tell them your situation or ask if there's a technician that could come to you to fix it. When I called and got mine repaired, the guy was pretty nice and made an effort to fulfill my needs even though I'm out of warranty. So yeah, all I can say is call and ask.

My hinge is breaking and I'm out of warranty too. I was just wondering, did they charge you for this?

Dell will do a one time replacement out of warranty for no charge.

if you are out of warranty and you need to have hinges replaced, you can either send it in for repair, or you can pay $247 to extend your warranty so you can have in-home-repair. This is what my Alienware Representative told me. I will be buying a m14x soon, so once I get it, I will be sending my r2 in for repair.
So my hinge needs to be replaced...
