Well after numerous calls and hours on the phone with dell, they are finally sending out a tech to replace my motherboard and lcd.

I have the common issue with the screen being slanted to the left and the left hinge gap, is well none compared to the right. So when closing the lid the hinge catches and the lcd touches the keyboard leaving marks in the lcd after being closed for awhile.

Also, have random BSOD and restarts .... I have tried every driver, bios configuration and OS installs and still BSOD, memtests etc... hours of wasted time!!!

Finally after my 5th call to dell they are sending a tech out to replace the motherboard and lcd!

Will this fix the BSOD? (that I think is due to the OverClocked processor)

Will replacing the LCD fix the hinge issue?

Guess I'll find out tomorrow, wish me luck!

    good luck bud.

Had a LCD replacement and the field tech pretty much raped my system.

I didn't have to fix it myself opening up the whole thing again, but I did it anyways. My hinges weren't even before and after the replacement btw, but I do have to say it's better since with the initial LCD, when I closed the lid, the top of the LCD was out of sync with the palm rest, and now they are.

Regular, advanced or premium warranties??? I took the advanced in hopes that it would be easier to get things dealt with.

Sad... I'm an IT Administrator and have Dell ProSupport for IT for my company 24x7 replacement within 4hours...so I assumed I would have it on this thing (because I bought it through Dell business) but Dell made me go through Alienware Support! If the support was like this for my servers and other laptops/desktops/printers etc... I wouldn't even think of Dell for any sort of solution. Even after all this I am thinking twice before I pull the trigger on another Dell product. (This has been the worst service I have ever recieved from any computer manufacturer). The thing is Dell was great when I went through ProSupport, I would just state the issue and what I needed, and I would get it within 4 hours... but this is just pathetic.

My home computer Sager 9280 is in for a motherboard replacement, Sager had no problems giving me an RMA after a 10 minute phone call and me explaining what was wrong... So while it is in for repair I decided to upgrade to the gtx 480m aswell... :)

I just hope these issues are fixed with the LCD replacement and motherboard but I am very sceptical to say the least.

maybe your country just has bad service, or the person you talked to was an idiot. I had to call dell twice (first time to replace LCD due to hinge issue) and second to replace the palm rest. Both very easy and quick, just had to take a picture of the problem, email them and then I got my service.

But yes I see what you mean by state the issue and say what you needed, I could easily identify the problem and tell them what needs to be done but I still had to email them pictures and stuff, could have been easier but none the less my experience doesn't sound any where near as bad as yours.

Yeah I had a dead pixel, field techie fixed it but now there's dust inside the LED and the bazel alienware words dont look all lighted.

I called them again, asked them to send it to their service centre with a "clean" room and told them to take their time.

If after 5 working days I see dust inside it again, I dunno I might dump it into the bathtub (I have the complete coverage warranty) and hopefully the new lappie will be better.

But I do hope they can do a good job on the screen in the service centre, i can understand working in another place with pressure on the tech is rather not fair at times.

It might be worth reading the warranty policy before doing that. In another thread, someone mentioned it only covers it once, then you're SOL if something happens to it a second time. I haven't read it myself and did a warranty through another company, so I don't know if that's true or not, however.

As a former Dell employee I must say, if you bought that through a Business account you are entitled to all the benefits of the business line (faster pickup and they really go out of their way to help on business support). I would call back and ask for a manager, your service tag should be linked to the business account anyway so someone messed up there.

Update: LCD and motherboard replaced !!! No more BSOD, woot woot... the lcd is no longer slanting more to the left but it still touches the keyboard when closed :(.

Added bonus the LCD is crisper and brighter then my last one...

All and all everything is good thus far.

What panel do you have now?

Device Manager > Monitors > Generic PnP Monitor > Properties > Details > Hardware Ids.

    Same panel as the 11z:

"Contrast is simply bad, with a ridiculous ratio of 152:1. This is due to black levels of 1.3 Cd/m² (much too high), for whites at 197.3 Cd/m²."

The 11z has at least two different panels - including our SEC5441 - so we need to find specs for the LG021E specifically. The specs on that page could be for any of the 11.6 panels Dell has stockpiled.

LG's usually have good bright colors but the black looks horrible.

Atleast that's how it is on my M90, and M1730.

Samsung, LG and others can make some good to great panels. However that doesn't preclude those same manufacturers from producing inexpensive, lower grade panels as well.

Hmm... not finding anything specific to the LGD021E. The reviews I've found for the other Dell 11.6 LCDs all mention the Samsung or AUO if they bother to give any detail at all.

If anyone has the LGD021E in the Dallas area, I'd be willing to measure and calibrate it. Same for the SEC5441. PM me if you're interested.
