After installing Windows 8, I've searched high and low on how to get the switchable graphics to work on Windows 8. I was about to revert back to Windows 7 but found a way to get switchable graphics to work and to get the FN+F6/Tray icon to work.
Make sure you uninstall nVidia drivers (if you updated). and have switchable selected in the bios.
Download the stock A02 from Dell's website and extract. Go to device manager, double click display adapters, and both Mobile Intel 4 and NVIDIA Geforce GT should show up, but by default they have WDDM labeled at the end.
Double click on Mobile Intel 4 series, click update driver, browse my computer, let me pick from a list, click on have disk, browse, and go to the directory where you extracted the dell drivers. In the "display.drivers" folder, select the file NVCADM.INF.
The screen should go blank for a few minutes, but after it installs, you'll have the tray icon where you can select which GPU you want to use like in Windows 7.
I hope this helps those who are still using the R1 and upgraded to Windows 8.

I've been using W8 in my R1 ever since the beta, and never had problems installing and using the Switchable Hybrid Graphincs as I used to in W7. I don't undestand why you had any problem at all.
Anyway, you did a good work finding out a solution, hope it also helps anybody who's having problems. -

Thanks for sharing the solution that worked out for you. We don't have this machine within the recommended (supported) ones for Windows 8 and this type of guides are the main help for users who get into trouble. +1Rep!
