So my M11xR2 has finally arrived. Boy, this thing truly is a beauty huh?! However, I can't say this princess is without flaw. First thing I noticed is that my left "vent" seems to have some bright spots on it. Especially noticeable if you press it with your finger and seems to remain after finger is removed. Also, there seems to be some light leakage below and to the right of my right vent. Below are some pics of what I'm talking about.

Aisde from this, I was stuck on the "Please wait while Windows is setup for the first time." window for over 20 minutes forcing me to restart the computer numerous times until it went away.

Anyways, aside from this I'm loving it. I guess I'll have to go at Dell already. Thought I wouldn't have to go through this at least for some weeks, but I should have known better.

I have the leakage, it's mildly annoying but not enough that I've done anything about it yet.

You probably should have waited longer. It takes a long time, I'm not quite sure how long mine was because I was distracted (real work) while it was going.

LOL! And I took those with my phone too. (HTC EVO) :p

Now, Dell told me they'll send someone to fix it for me. Is that ok or should I try to get an exchange instead? I don't want them messing anything else up while getting inside my laptop.

Normal....... I wouldn't let the field tech come over for nothing.... inexperienced field tech might even make it worst than it is now.

Normal to have the left vent like that? I don't think that's normal. There's obvious damage to that one. I know I'll get over the light leakage, but that left vent is just too much.

the left side looks like there is a piece of semi-transparent material that smooths the light by blocking some of the output so that it doesn't look like it's coming from one led (though it is), and yours is ripped/cracked/whatever, which is causing a bright spot, since the gap from the rip isn't blocking the light as usual.

the right side looks like the case isn't snapped into place correctly.

the left is probably harder to fix than the right if you want perfection. if you don't, you could just open it up and put a piece of paper or semi-transparent tape over it to get the normal effect. if you want perfection, a tech probably has to replace the case because I doubt they have spare, uhh, whatever it is they put over the transparent plastic there to block the light some. i bet with the right you could just reposition the case to get the light to stop leaking, and if that failed, sticking notecard or electrical tape in there would make it work with no ill effects.

Well, Dell has scheduled someone to come over and take care of it. Is it dangerous to let them into the machine? I'm very picky about my investments and wouldn't want any leftover marks/scratches.

Luck of the draw buddy. If the person makes marks/scratches, call Dell/AW again to replace those parts..

The left vent looks like the little transparent plastic bit is damaged, this happened to mine after I dropped my m11x and smashed the vent thing, but mine was on the right side and produced the same effect. You'll have to replace the hole palm rest to fix it ($109.95) but it should be covered under warrenty so you'll get it replaced free :)

Is it hard to do? Did the tech damage it more than fix it?!

Taking of the palmrest is a PITA, but since you are probably getting a new one, worrying about taking it off and damaging it no longer applies x).
