Seems like there is a lot of hate on this forum with the R2 but with the new drivers I have ZERO issues with optimus and I love it! Here is a little something something of what the R2 beast is capable of with a CPU and GPU OC. I know many will say 3dmark06 is b/s.. synthetic benchmarks yada yada but still looks sweet that a 11.6 inch notebook can push this score. this is with the i5 too if I had the i7 i could easily push 8k+

I can only speak for myself but I dont hate any alienware model... certainly not the R2. I wish they would release the I7 or I5 without optimus. I would probably sell my R1 and purchase that type of model. Congrats on the great benchmark. I do envy the extra megahertz you guys have.

570/1425/910. Was my gpu oc and cpu was 164 fsb

Same! I love my R2. I haven't give me any trouble, perfect right out of the box. As for optimus i don't have any problem with it either. i was able to run cod mw2 at 35-40 fps average, Street fighter 4 at 38 fps average, and HAWX at 55 fps average and all game setting is maxed out. i didn't overclock or try any new drivers just as is right out of the box. i will post my 3dmard score when i get my ssd today.

Wow, its so refreshing to see an extremely satisfied M11x owner along with proof. Mine is still in production with an EDD of 7/12, with a slew of problems creeping up, makes me want to cancel my order. Need more threads like these to reinforce the trust in my decision.

What Atkammoh said.
It is awfully refreshing
Now to just wait for it...ARGH!! Either July 20th comes sooner, or I need to get my hands on a delorean and flux capictator -
Also, L4D2 is GREAT fun, no lag whatsoever on all maxed out settings. ENJOY!

People with perfectly working R2 need to take a break from playing their games and come in here and brag about their little monster =]

Also need I mention that I got this bad boy for $798 after taxes and shipping =) -
Have to say it is hard for me to get off I have been having a blast with it
right now i am on my desktop so i thought I would have a little time to talk about the machine
Also played around with evga(first time usuing) and the ff14 benchmark and just used some numbers people have been usuing which were 575 cpu shader linked and 875 mem and got 1490 on the test overall i am happy -
I do have one problem and I don't know if its anything, but I managed to get a BSOD from running cs 1.6... I don't know how. I didn't write the code down to check what was wrong but I will check the next time if it does happen.
CS might be running on the intel graphics card, I don't know but I'm sure I shouldn't have that problem. Also with a full 32/32 Server running a zombie 4.3 plugin I do occasionally hit 30 FPS, which I think is pretty pathetic considering it's four years older than my sony vaio which does the exact same thing but with dips just a little bit more often. Sometimes I have even seen 20 fps.
I know none of that matters to most users as your probly playing current gen games but this is HUGE in my opinion as this game is nearly 7 years older than my brand new alienware laptop. I would expect it to run with no problems at all, especially considering my graphics card is running 10 times the vram of my old one.
On a side note I have yet to run some new games. My serato scratch live runs amazing on this laptop, it's very fast at accessing my music library but I'm having problems running the box with a usb mouse at the same time.
Hinges are perfect, screen works, the keyboard is slightly higher on one side(? but by only a milimeter, still it's noticeable) and my fan is absolutely the quietest thing I have ever NOT heard -
I've had my R2 for 20 days now and have no complaints beyond the quality of the LCD panel. If they'd offered us an LCD upgrade option it would have taken this thing to a whole new level for me personally. I understand that they had to cut corners somewhere in order to deliver it at the price point they did. In any event, the panel (the AUO at least) is adequate for gaming. There's always the option of connection to a better display.
Optimus has been hassle free for me since Nautis gave us the modified inf necessary to use new drivers and the new beta from Dell has been great too. Thanks Nautis!
My hinges don't squeak and appear to be aligned perfectly. My keys do touch the screen, so I've been using either the cloth insert that came with the unit or my kabuto mouse mat for protection. The hinge cracking issue and the potential for it to be a persistent one requiring multiple LCD replacements is the one thing I'm somewhat concerned about. Hopefully my laptop will hold up.
It's been rock solid at 166fsb since day one. Temps have been perfectly normal; only getting warm on the left palmrest when gaming. I haven't once noticed any abnormal fan actuation or noise.
I get a very respectable 5.5 to 6 hours of battery life and I haven't had to do much other than tweak some of the power profile settings. I've been able to push that to 6.5 hours once or twice, but it's rare that I care about getting that much time between charging.
At this point I'd give the R2 a rating of 75 - 80 out of 100. For me there's nothing out there I'd give a 90 or better to. My MacBook Pro I'd give a solid 80 based on a slightly different set of criteria based on what I use it for.
Anyway, so far so good. Everyone who sees my R2 loves it, including some of the rather straight laced stiffs I work with. Everyone seems to want to rub the damned thing which means I have to break out the microfiber a lot. [grumble]
It's not all gloom and doom as some of the issues raised here my lead you to believe. -

update: 8009 =)

Though seriously, NICE! -
Damn, Tass you got quite a beast there. I can't even get close to you overclock settings without crashing 3dmark06. The best I can muster is 7612
-
my best has been 7740

i have been happy with mine too. posted my initial bench test in the R2/R1 comparison thread. That's just some initial test. Need to fine tune some things definitely can take this small little baby(beast) out of the water. For now I have been playing ME2 at max out setting with stock clock for both cpu n gpu with almost zero lag. really amazing how this small little thing perform. taking the quote from recent Ericsson's advertisement. "Tiny but Mighty!"

What are you guys using to see if ur GPU is stable? ATI TOOL? Furmark cant run for shet on my m11x r2
-
I am here to report that the m11x R2 has been a blast. Have been playing Defense Grid and ME2. Its been a long while since I have been playing PC games when I bought my macbook, and I must say that the m11x R2 is a good platform to jumpstart with.

I initially had problems with my games when I first got it during the last week of June. Now I can honestly says this is one hell of a laptop. Got me the i7 model and slapped in a 500gb Hybrid drive. With the latest Beta drivers installed all the issues that I had when I first got it have been reduced to 0. I now treat this laptop as an ultra portable powerhouse desktop. I do video capture and editing all in HD. I can convert files in good time during work for my PSP, and of course play my games. No regrets now. Plus, I really like how I can make the Alien FX notify me when I get e-mail!

I would just like to say these are not stable OC for me, crysis will crash. The 100% stable 3dmark06 score is 7780 and is 550/1360/890. I have had these settings run crysis benchmarks looped 99 at max settings several nights and have never had a BSOD. Batman, WoW, ME2, and other games never cause issues either.

-
i like my r2 a lot it is nice and zippy, the performance of games are great the only game i have not been able to completely max out is crysis. bioshock, bioshock 2, cod4:mw, cod:waw are all maxed out and play great

Another happy customer reporting in!
My only concern is a few keys touching the screen on the left side, but that's it. I also haven't been able to overclock the CPU without BSODing, but to be honest I haven't really tried getting it to work either, there just hasn't been a need to. I don't really care about bench marks, just performance and that has been great with everything I've thrown at it so far.
When PunkBuster finally fixes their "multiple DirectX devices detected" problem I'll finally upgrade to different drivers, but for now the stock 189.* drivers from Dell are working just fine. The only thing I have OCed is my GPU via the EVGA tuner. -
I have got to say I love my R2 as well. Games run great, the battery life is good, and it is also great for school
-
just got my i7 yesterday, stable 166 OC'd, no hinge problems, no keys touching the screen. Love it =D
-
Just ran some 3dmark06 and i got 7.8k score. i7 CPU @ stock and GPU @ 550/900.

Congrats you R2 guys! -
i hooked up my r2 to the external LCD i have and am able to play CoD:WaW and BioShock 2 on max settings at 1680*1050! That is nearly 70% more pixels! The more i do the more i am impressed with the m11x! i know CoD:WaW and BioShock 2 are about a year old, but they are two of my favorites.
Some m11xR2 LOVE
