    Speaker failure or soundcard (again? ?)

    hey guys,

    was watching youtube last night oN MY R2 when suddenly the rigth speaker crackled a little bit, and all the sound was now out of the left, it then crackled again and the sound cut back in slighty muted, then back to full sound,

    now i reset my machine, and tested both the soundcard and speakers with the post test utility and it came back fine, but it is very intermittent,

    how do i prove to dell i have and issue, and what in your opinion would it more likeley be, speaker or card?

    kinda peeved off since the first issue i ever had was a borked right speaker, and this was replaced, just glad i got an extended warranty......

    spoke to a dell rep today, he says it sounds like the speaker ( again ) i did a video on youtube since it is still sporadic,

    bit shakey, but if anyone is intrested alienware m11 r2 sound issue - YouTube

    will post their desision tomorrow when they call

    I had my right speaker replaced. I just noticed one day that it wasn't playing any sound, I never noticed any crackling. I called Dell and they sent a tech. It took three tries before they actually sent a speaker though it was suppose to come the first time. The first try they sent a motherboard. I had them replace it knowing it wouldn't fix the speaker but because my old one wouldn't over clock stably (R1). Now it overclocks fine but after my sound started going out completely intermittently with windows was saying no sound speakers or headphones plugged in. Sometimes it would crackle first, as you described. I think a wire was loose or the sound card wasn't seated properly as it seems to be working fine now after the speaker was finally replaced and everything was torn down and reassembled. The second time they sent a palm rest, keyboard and power strip which the tech let me keep to for my 2nd non-warrantied m11x provided I ship back the old ones. The third time they finally sent the speaker along with another new palm rest and power strip... Dell's tech support is really bad but at least they don't seem to have a problem sending a tech out and replacing parts.

    yeah its pretty much gone silent now, worse thing is the right speaker was already replaced once :S
