So who here doesn't own the M11x but just checks this forum everyday to hear the goodies and complaints people say?

I personally love the M11x and totally believe its an awesome machine but I slightly feel that Dell will release a refresh soon to fix the hinges possibly add a better cooling component on the motherboard or who knows matte screen. :p Maybe even dropping on September or having a significant price drop in November following black Friday.

Who knows. But I'm just spectating before pulling the trigger. ;)

I've been viewing the forum for a couple of weeks reading up on m11x and to be honest unless there's some kind of refresh where the hinge problem is sorted then i won't be buying one. I'm generally unimpressed with Dell anyway.

I had a couple of laptops from them (inspiron 1720) and both of them arrived with problems. One was sent back and the other i fixed myself (bulging keyboard due to a cable being stuck underneath). I'm starting to think they don't have any kind of quality control.

I'll need my laptop for December so if there hasn't been some kind of update i'll be getting a Sony Vaio :/

Don't hold your breath on a refresh. They just refreshed the unit 2 months ago, to release the Core i5/i7 models. The unit uses the latest-and-greatest hardware from both Intel and nVidia.

I think that the people with hinge problems are a vocal minority. None of the online reviews mention bad hinges. There are many people who own an M11x that don't have a hinge problem. And Dell has a "fix" for that - they cover it under warranty.

I highly doubt a refresh is coming any time soon.

I agree that owners with hinge problems are probably a small percentage overall, but keep in mind that the R1 is only six months out of the gate. The failure point is plastic that weakens over time. That type of issue is fundamentally different than say, a bad batch of faulty components such as memory, GPU, CPU, drives, etc.

And really, would any of the people who review laptops have the opportunity to experience something like hinge failure? Absolutely not. They have the review units for days before it goes back. Jerry here at NBR who reviewed both models actually owns the R1, but if his hinge goes south next week what are the odds that would even warrant a front page mention or an update to his reviews?

I love my M11x and I'm glad I found one on ebay for a decent price, brand new from a reseller. I don't have any hinge problems and I keep a microfiber cloth between the keyboard and the lcd because that's what I do. I also have one for my M17x. The only thing I think I'm going to upgrade on my M11x is the hard drive. I have a 250 gig hd but I only have 73 gigs of space left. I've loaded a ton of games and office software on it.
