Now i got 2x500gb 2.5" HDDs in enclosures, but they are rather full, i got another 250gb one doodling somewhere that i can use for the time, but i was just wondering what do you guys use?

i got an SSD, so i can't keep much on my m11x, and i like to carry the HDD around, so 3.5" one requiring external power source would be just too much... unless theres 3.5" HDDs + enclosures that don't need the extra juice? haven't noticed any.

now a home media center streaming PC would be nice, but since i am not often at home, it isn't much use, also i can't get wifi wherever i go. though i haven't tried any of those since windows xp times, when it seemed to be easier to just use a local FTP server to transfer stuff between PCs.

what do you guys use? 3HDDs +laptop + bunch of accessories is getting rather tight in my backpack, so I'd love to see what solutions you guys got to this problem of where to stuff the data.

Well, I installed my old 1tb 2.5 drive into a external enclosure when I installed my ssd.

So I have 128gb onboard, then I have a usb powered 1tb drive.

I picked up a 2.5" WD Elements SE 1TB USB3 external JUST before the prices soared last year and managed to get it for $72 from staples. I have another 320GB 2.5" drive in an enclosure.

I just sorted my data so specific things are on specific drives and whenever i'm going out and need my lappy i just grab whichever HDD i will need. After a few months of carrying everything around with me i found this to be much easier.

yeah, the thing i was wondering was when the prices going to go down... it is like 80£ for 1tb drive and oddly ones without enclosures are more expensive... i think about sitting it out until prices become more friendly, but when will that happen :/

The ones already in enclosures are usually a low rpm drive, thus being cheaper.

Your best bet is to buy a nice drive, and your own box to put it in.

i don't mind a normal 5400RPM one, it is just for storage anyway... and 1tb drivers, there aren't that many to choose from that could be in there, it is either samsung M8,WD scorpio blue, Toshiba MK1059GSM. i think there was an offering by seagate as well as hitachi, but i can't find them on amazon... i am sure they wouldn't put a 7200RPM one into enclosure...

anyways thing is one already in enclosure is still cheaper than any of internal ones... 79.99£ 1tb for enclosed ones, theres a few and internal ones without enclose start at 85£ or something, which is rather weird as you get pretty much same HDD+enclosure for less than just HDD...

also, japan getting hit with the tsunami and stuff, it did hit the HDD prices. Was just wondering would it be better to wait for them to get cheaper?
