So recently when I am on my R1, I can be doing anything, gaming, or just browsing/typing and I will sometimes get beeps. What does this mean??

Very vague, we will need alot more information. Have you installed anything recently? Dropped it? Done anything? It could just be like Stickykeys or something, for example, on my laptop if I hit certain key combinations it will make a beeping noise. It could just be something like that.

No drops, and the only thing I ever install are games from steam. I dont get any pop ups like sticky keys should either. It can be anytime at all. Usually just one quick, noticeable beep but I do not notice anything happening, just the beep.

It's not the battery becoming fully charged or something is it?

zmarselle - what hard drive have you got in there? I ask because I have a machine with a Seagate Momentus XT which emits a short, sharp beep every now and again, and apparently can be fixed with a firmware upgrade. I haven't done this yet as it isn't annoying enough yet and I haven't had the time to clone the drive recently.

I get a double-beep when I'm typing - am a fastish touch-typist but very light-fingered so it may be typos causing it, I figure.

I know the m11x will make a fast beep when the free fall protection kicks in. Maybe that is malfunctioning and detecting a drop?

    I will look into this!

I find it mostly when I am typing blocks now that you mention it..but why would it beep for a typo? how would it know??

Maybe..I am just debating calling dell for this. Afraid it means something else will happen, but also afraid to send it in out of fear that it will come back destroyed.

I'm wondering if it's not so much typing the wrong letter, but mis-timing and typing one key almost at the same time as another.

Mine does the same thing. I'll just be doing something, anything, and it will beep a couple times. I've never been able to figure out what it was. I believe I have my freefall disabled, so I doubt that is it. This is on an R2, by the way.

I posted a similar thread about this last year i have the exact same thing its completely random.

But it hasn't happened for ages, just a completely weird thing i even phoned up Alienware support and the only thing they could do was get me to send my Laptop in so they could experience it themselves.

Since it doesn't seem to have effected the laptop i didn't bother.
