I'm having trouble with a newly bought m11xr2 alienware laptop. It seems that any time I start up a game, whether new or old, the laptop can't handle the .avi videos that pop up. I've tried playing both Blood Bowl (a newer game) and Arcanum (an older game) and the laptop can't handle either game's startup videos. It will stutter for a while and then give up, but I can still hear audio playing.

Is this a common problem with the m11xr2?

playing with the optimus feature can fix some of the crashing problems I have with the actual games but doesn't affect the laptop's ability to play videos it seems. could this be a codec problem?

Most likely. Do a google search for CCCP. It's a very efficient codec package.
