I uninstalled my Syaptics driver and installed the more updated one on the Dell website. However, on the Control Panel > Mouse settings I lost the "Disable touchpad when external mouse is connected". It's still on the Alien settings, but when I connect my DeathAdder my touchpad is still active.

I just got the laptop recently and it's amazing =) definitely loving it. Glad I didn't stress over some of my concerns. It's the solution I've been looking for. No laptop is going to ever be this small and light and be this powerful ... well maybe. lol

    A few other questions:
    1. Is there a way to make a hotkey to turn off the screen or turn off the touchpad?
    2. Is there anything I should worry about in terms of breaking? Should I be worried that I didn't get any extended warranty/care?
    3. Any optimization suggestions?
    4. Any mod suggestions?

    Thanks!

    1. Turning off screen... Dunno, but i know the Fn+F1 key does something to do with a screen just never bothered checking. Turning off touchpad, why not just put the old drivers back on? I'm not a fan of always updating to the new drivers for peripherals, if it's not broken why fix it eh.

    2. No, the hinge issue is fixed in the R3 and i honestly can't think of any other issues (other than the occasional Optimus incompatibility).

    3. Purely depends on how you use it. Mine's optimized for max performance because it's always displaying on my 42" plasma. People woh travel alot optimize it for battery life ect.

    4. SSD, hands down. The main and most effective upgrade you could possibly do to an M11x R3. After that upgrading RAM i guess, but if you already have 8GB then that's more than enough.

I have an SSD in it. I got the basic 6GB setup though. How much are the different RAM setups for the M11x and how difficult is it to install? (Will I lose my 1 year default warranty with dell if I do it myself?)

I tried reinstalling the old driver but that didn't bring back the option on the control panel > mouse to disable when an external mouse is connected.

I remember there being a guide for getting that option back, i can't remember it though sorry you'd have to search here.

Also you're looking at less than $50 for a kit of decent 2x4GB sticks and no it won't affect your warranty, Dell allows you to replace the RAM & HDD & battery & Keyboard yourself.
