Just unboxed it a few hours ago. Here's a few pics. I've wanted an Alienware for a very long time!
My spec is:
i3 processor

Hah never knew that they sent a red sleeve with the red model. Interesting. Nice pics.
-
wow! red sleeve! its kinda cool, congrats and enjoy the gaming!
-
I didnt get a red sleeve with my red M11x
-
Love the red sleeve
-
Oh wow red looks nice... I may have to take apart mine and have it painted red!
-
-
The red looks great man, enjoy your beast!
-
Though Im sure someday I will break something and have to fix it.
-
I've no antivirus software and was looking for a good free one. Is avg any use?
-
I use Avast! and I'm happy with it but lots of people here seem to be using Microsoft Security Essentials.
They're both free which is even better. -
I used Avira previously on my M11X , and then i used Avast wich seem to be more powerfull.
I found a way to use Mcaffee ( did an alienrespawn , enter another mail adress , bim new 6 month ! ) , but Mcaffee is annoying with the R1 : when you switch from intel to Nvidia , you have to kill it. -
I use the microsoft one myself. Now comes the fun part is trying to overclock the machine, custom BIOS, overclock the card to squeeze out some extra performance.
I'd say invest in some more ram as well, when funds allow. -
-
Just installed Microsoft Security Essentials and it's running it's first scan. I won't be upgrading to 4GB of RAM as I'm off traveling in 4 weeks for a year and the M11X will be staying put.
I'm going to start sifting through the M11X threads here now to see what else I should be doing to set this bad boy up (I'm coming from a MacBook Pro so I'm completely unfamiliar with Windows).
I tried overclocking in the bios last night but I couldn't scroll down to do it (I've also never attempted this before so chances are I was doing it wrong). I read here somewhere that there was no point in trrying to overclock an i3 M11X Sandy Bridge as the difference would be minimal? -
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
Nice looking computer.
As for AV, I use Microsoft and AVG together. BUt I really believe the AVG is overkill and borderline useless. MSE is very comprehensive and lightweight. You'll love it. -
Ok, so I'm having a bit of trouble overclocking. I can't seem to find it. I've tried pressing both F2 and F12 for BIOS and when in there, I clicked on Advanced but overclocking is not an option there. All the YouTube videos explain it that way. What am I doing wrong?
I downloaded CPUZ and took a screengrab of my current set up:
-
Oh yeah, also, should I be downloading driver updates or something for the laptop?
-
Don't think the i3 overclocks.
-
-
BTW i LOVE the red congrats looks real nice. -
Just installed Malwarebytes as well. Cheers for that HisSvt2.
-
The i3 can be overclocked (its just an enable/disable option for the most part) but it cannot use turbo boost like all i3s
oh and another vote for MSE (microsoft) -
Lads, really stupis question and I apologise in advance (it's due to me coming from a mac). I need to delete tasks in the task manager to clear some ram for games. It worked perfectly but now I can't select all the files at once. I know it's shift + Arrow Down to select all but it won't. i've also tried clicking on the first task, holding shift and then clicking on the last task to select everything in between but still nothing. There's no way I'm manually deleting 88 tasks. Maybe I've changed a setting.
Once again, blame all this on my Windows noobness. -
Just use a program called Gamebooster : select all services , click on " BOOST " and it stop every annoying services
It even have cool features like detecting when a game is launch and boosting alone, then " unboosting " when the game is over. -
I second gamebooster for clearing RAM. I just leave it on when I need the RAM (when I needed it way back in the day). You just will need to turn it on every time you boot. You cannot start up with it enabled because it can cause issues with start up.
-
Gamebooster worked a treat, cheers!

I see that Crysis 2 is not on Steam, only Crysis 1. Is there anywhere else online to get it or do I need to buy an external drive?
-
You can get it on most of the other game download clients. Steam changed some rule they had and it violated some other agreement that EA had with another download client, so steam pulled crysis 2 from the store.
http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Origin-Steam-Crysis-2-FPS-digital-distribution,12945.html -
What client would be as good as steam with C2?
-
Is Origin any good?
-
I use origin only because they have EA specific games not on Steam. I find Origin to be fine just because you don't have to worry about it once you install the games. It doesn't have to be launched. I install the games through origin and then add them to a non-steam game.

Cool unboxing photos. Ibuy all me Dells from the Outlet, so the unboxings are significantly less sexy.
-
Maybe is just me, but I don´t like the red color in the m11x, looks weird that the inside is all black and the outside all red....
-
pmassey31545 Whats the mission sir?
-
red sleeve is so sick, makes me want one so bad
-
Downloaded Tomb Raider: Underworld earlier (I was obsessed with the Tomb Raider series growing up). It runs perfectly (scenery is spectacular) although the controls are a pain in the when you have to fight something taxing like 3 tigers or 5 lizards or even a boat full of angry lads!
I haven't bought a mouse yet, probably will this weekend although I don't think a mouse would help out with the controls in TR. I'm contemplating buying Dead Island although I'm not too sure about the performance. -
From what I have seen, Dead Island runs like a dream on the r1 (40+ frames per second), so it should run even better on your r3.
-
even with 2GB of RAM?
-
hmm... not sure on that part, but ram is pretty cheap and easy to swap out.
-
Playing Tomb Raider Underworld with headphones in and the sound up to max...........epic!!!!! What a soundtrack!
-
My g/f tried to argue last night that her MacBook was superior to my M11X. The basis for her argument was that mine sounded like it was about to take-off........I quietly told her to go back to The Sims and Facebook
-
Congrats on the purchase. You made me reconsider red on M11X. -
Murmured would be an understatement. Never threaten an Apple fanboy. Rule 101 right there.
Did you buy the M11X in Red? -
Pictures don't do the M11X justice at all. If you think it looks good in a picture, believe me it looks a million times better in the flesh.
I had read loads of reviews about the difference between the anodised aluminium on the M17X R2 and M18X and was convinced that the rubbered texture combined with the plastic would be terrible compared to Alienware's aluminium brothers. When I opened the box I was gobsmacked at the build quality. Everyone has commented on the awesome rubberized texture on the outside of the laptop. To me, it is far more superiorly built than a MacBook. A really nice sturdy piece of kit. I can't help but wonder what an M18X is like in the flesh if the M11X to me is perfect.
I have a few more pics of it if you want me to post them up. -
Not yet, waiting for some sort of a sick discount code or something.
Singapore prices are horrible. -
Your from Singapore? I'll be traveling through briefly on my world trip in Jan. What's the city like?
-
Clean city, traffic lights are respected, easy transpo.
You can basically tour the entire country using MRT and taxis.
And how can I forget... expensive Alienware + deprived of M18X. -
Red m11x... mmmm looks better than I thought.
-
A friend has the black version and personally, the red outshines it completely.
