I knew Alienware did claim a longer period of time until the M11x went off-sale. I was still considering buying a M11x for $550 when Alienware raised the price back over a week before the claimed they would. I was still considering the M11x because I knew that the sale didn't end until later in the month, December 17 at 6am to be exact. It's kind of deceptive to make customers think they have a longer window of time to purchase the M11x at a steep discount than they actually did.

If it's a deception, it's a deception that harms Dell itself because people like you who see it at a smaller price are less likely to buy it at a higher price, so I doubt it was their intention the whole time to advertise the price for a certain window and then shorten it.

They couldn't have sold out of them since the same model is still available for $799. Demand might have been higher than the rate they could manufacture them, though. Still sucks for those who were considering ordering before 12/17.

This is correct. I asked a rep and he said to order ASAP because usually they run out of stock. Apparently they make a "set" amount of laptops for the sale. They make a specific date, but usually cut it short. I'm not pissed at dell for this... I'm pissed because I live in Canada and we have to pay more for the same system...

Well then they should say "quantities limited" or "while supplies last" otherwise it is false advertising.

If they still have stock but ran out of stock specifically set aside and designated for that price, it is a "Bait 'n' Switch" tactic, which is illegal. Press the issue and I'd bet they'll sell it to you at the sale price.

You bet they would sell at the advertised price. I'd press on this until they caved, and I don't think it would take much given the explicit wording and dates on the ad. I mean c'mon, how much more specific can they be by saying the 17th at 6pm CST? If I was shopping for one I'd be all over this.
