OOO that will get the fanboys foaming at the mouth.

What I mean is, as of about 30 minutes ago you can now no longer order an R1.

It's been removed from sale in Australia and New Zealand shortly after the R2 release so it was gone for some time. Doesn't mean it's obsolete if it's still usable.

The death of my M11xR1 has been greatly exaggerated.

Just as long as Alienware keep churning out graphics drivers for the R1, I won't be bothered.

I can already feel the heat rising. The title of my topic was sensationalist - yes, I know the r1 is a fine machine.

It should be noted though that Luke wouldn't have defeated the empire without a lot of help from R2 though ;)

Hmmm... if one applied the same yard stick in Oceania, then the M11xR2 is also obsolete.

At least here in NZ we get a heads up when a new release is coming, cause the existing listed devices start dropping off the web site.

M15x is long gone too. :(

Don't feel to bad in a few months you'll be able to buy an Ivy Bridge M11x with approx 15-20% more CPU grunt than the existing SB.

    Im good. lol

I will have this R1 for a while. untill i need more performance this will do just fine. i can play every game i currently own above 30FPS (minimum i consider playable, not great but playable)

All funds currently being allocated towards new video card for the desktop. maybe a 580? :)

There needs to be a focus on GPU mods for the R1 to remain current.

Think bigger. Think 6990. You can overvolt it without toasting itself unlike the 590 and it's faster and cheaper at stock!

I am thinking bigger. I have a SLI mobo. ;) I just do one card after the 1st price drop and a 2nd right before they EOL. Keeps me current with out upgrading every gen. I currently have 2x260 (216 65nm). With a Q9550 @ 3.8Ghz (on water so could go higher but havent needed or tried).

The next mod will address this focus on the R1 GPU, if the mod works on the R2.

SLI as in nVidia chipset? 2x260 216 65nm? Don't those support overvolting unlike the 55nm versions?

Um I don't think so.. It may not be the toughest gamer in 11.6 inch format.. but it will handle its own and could you please direct me to another laptop with all of the features and a proven 6 + hour battery life. my wife's R1 is a great machine and will remain a part of our arsenal for as long as it works.. great little full featured laptop with HDMI and every bell and whistle short of a DVD drive.. (eh.. I already bought an external with lightscribe anyway)

yup. the 780i... the last REAL desktop chipset (aside for the 790i, only diff DDR3) that Nvidia made before Intel got all stupid and pushed Nvidia out of the mother board business.

yea. there is the EVGA tool but it hasn't done anything for me to help increase the stable OC. im capped @ 702/1404/1188.

It would be a pinmod. I'm waiting for it to be tested working as I'm not sure if it works for sure. I don't have stable clocks to see if there is any increase as I have been looking for new mods between the R1 .95v BIOS and now.

Intel chipset were generally better clocking and there are hacks to enable SLI on pre X58 hardware so there wasn't much of a backlash. Plus, it was all legally possible. It's all different on the mobile front though- nVidia chipsets are guaranteed to be overclockable without modding with ntune.

The EVGA has very tame limits. Try something like Afterburner or agentgod's GPU Voltage Tuner if it is Volterra VRM.

Desktop Ivys aren't due 'til Q4, so I doubt you'll be seeing an Ivy Bridge M11x until this time next year.

And I just modded my R1 for 1.73GHz. Although my keyboard is botched now for some reason. :(

Gonna try to overvolt the GT 335m next. If it works then I should be good for a while.

The R1 is a great machine. Just hope they don't botch my screen update, well unless they give me a brand new R3.

6990 is more than 700 buks and its LOUD. Ud b a lot better off getting 2 6970's or 580's. Dual cards are never that great anyways..
Personally at this point in time i would get dual 6870's because they are nice small cards that scale amazingly. They are somewhat affordable as well

I never understood SLi or Xfire on a desktop. Unless you're driving a 30" 2560x1440 screen then there's really no use. I guess multi-monitor too. Most likely you'll update your GPU in a year anyhow.

It's still available online, but maybe I'm on a different internet :p ... I think the R1 will never die. They should just offer one config with SU7300, 4GB RAM, 320GB HDD for $499 and leave it at that. It'd probably sell for a long time.

It is a great machine and it will continued to be demanded for production.

Those who prefer laptops that are lengthier in battery life or cosmic design will definitely recommended to purchase R1.

There are other nice good things about R1 as well.

I think obsolete is the wrong word to use if people can still use it for their intentions. The best word that describes this situation is discontinued.

On the us dell site it still available :)

Still find it weird that the r2 left the site but kinda makes it rare :) Still could find it on the outlet tho.

And if my system ever needs replaced looks like i would get a r3 :) Even tho i don't want that too happen sense i like my r2. But if the overheating spikes keep happening will have too contact dell soon...

But ya the r1 is still a great machine :)

Its all good my R1still gets 7+ hours of web surfing or I can switch to the 335 with the push of a button and play WOW for 3 1/2 hours with no cables wich is why I bought the R1 over the soon to be obselete R2in the first place Im still happy with my purchase. When a new design comes out with better battery life I may switch but till then I still have the best of the 3 for my needs.

Seems like my temp problem might be fixed anyways i just set the fan too manual and temps are much lower :)

Hmm ya there's no fan issues on my r2 i just like having my fan max when im doing something heavy on it. Mainly when my system is overclocked cpu/gpu and gpu volt modded things can get toasty which the max fan helps.

So far gpu ony hits around 75c too 78c now :) instead of 90s and 100c...
