Thinking of getting an m11 need a little advice

Okay guys i new here i just needed some first hand advice. Now i am debating of getting m11x R2 with an i7 now i been researshing for hours & hours from what i have read is that the R2 crashs on most games i have read its do to the drivers. That being said has there been a solution to that? From what i have read the only solution is to down clock the gpu or cpu i forgot which. But thats one thing that bugs me so much that i would have to downclock. So again from what i have read people are saying ether get an R1 mod it or an R3 i realy wounldnt mind saving a lil more & getting an R3 but again if the bugs on the R2 have been fixed i would so jump on it. I hope i dont offend anyone who has an R2 i have read people have great success with an R2 but it just seems from again from readings that theres more probelms than success. Also the games i would like to play is css,bf,& well just modern games. thanks again & i look forward in your input thank you

I have no experience with the R2, I own a R3, but from my standpoint I would buy the R3 just to have some more headroom with the upgraded graphic processor.
my advice: save some more and buy the latest revision (bonus: the hinge problem will be sorted out)

 

I have the R1, and after overclocking the GPU a fair bit, I can play games like MW3 and Unreal Tournament 3 at nearly 60 FPS constant with a few settings tweaked. It is rock stable and I have yet to have any problems with this fantastic little laptop. Put in an SSD and 8GB of RAM and you will have a PC that is as silent as an Ultrabook when doing light tasks, and powerful enough to game when you need it.

The hinge problem will be sorted out by Dell even out of the warranty period as it is a manufacturing defect. Plus, the R1 has the most video outputs available.

 

Thanks for the advice. I am leaning a little towards the R1 because it is a little cheaper but then again i like the whole fact that R3 will give me some head room. Ashwin1234 hows does your R1 do in online battle with css if you have tryed it? Also i belive there is two R1 models which one should i stick to? Thanks guys

 

I've got R2 & R3 with i7. Simply, get R3... it's worth it. Best machine I've ever had - and I've had them a lot

 

Yea i am looking at the prices i think i should get an R3 so that being said should i get one now? I have seened them go for $800 the lowest i ve seen is 750 or should i wait till around christmas time to get one seeing that people might need money & just wanna get rid of there R3 keep in mind i want to get one from a private party. So what you guys think? I just have the urge to get an R1 ugh ugh there going for like 300 right now!!!!! Lol

But R3 is the way to go if you want to game in the coming year, the 335M GT is starting to wilt. R1 for battery life all the way I don't really see the point in the R2 anymore when people sell the R3 for so near to it.

 

may aswell take a look at sager/clevo 11" depending on budjet (it is 800 with i5 and 650m and beat anything at that size). I know this is alienware forum, but it nice to have other options ~~

 

Sager i never heard of that company. Ill look into them the sager is better than the R3? They go for $800? Hhhmmm intersting any other input? The R1 should handle counter strike & day of defeat with no probelms? High settings? Online battle? Thanks

There is also a sager/clevo dedicated forum here. The alienware m11xR3 was EOL/discontinued iirc.

 

I have yet to try CS, but I am sure it will run perfectly fine seeing how MW3 can run perfectly smooth when playing online. The only setting I turned down was Shadows and the Specular map to low (but still enabled).

Yea sure, the R3 is better. but for $300? Grab that R1 NOW! for $300 the R1 wins hands down for value, the 20% increase in performance with an R3 is not worth the $500.

This is unrelated to the topic, Rishwin, how do you have 3 HDD's in your G73? Removed the ODD and used a caddy?

 

Yup, ODD caddy. Think it runs off a slower controller though so just have a storage drive in there.

 

my r2 will NOT play EQ. it goes into instant freeze and only way out is a hard reboot
