how is the screen compared to the m11x r2. anything significantly different in how it looks, viewing angles, and color?
thanks
-
i find the screen to be brighter and cooler (more towards the blue) so I think it's an improvement over the R2.
-
Brighter and cooler doesn't mean anything. They're using the same cheap panels in the R3 and as we've learned one panel to the next there's often a very noticeable difference in display characteristics. The AUO's are heavily blue and the Samsungs are warmer.
-
it is brighter but not bright enough but other will tell you its enough.
Also the fan issue is no issue because i cant hear the fan even under heavy load in SC2 its almost quiet. -
The fan is extremely noticeable at moderate load. Maybe my unit is defective.. I will definitely call Dell about this.
-
@slickie - so you say there's not much of a difference from the R2 screen and the R3 screen?
-
-
I think a search in google would do. I can't remember the site where they did experiments on the screens. -

Has anyone found a good replacement screen for the M11x? Aren't all the screens the same between R1 R2 R3?
-

My R3 screen appears a little brighter than my R2. Basically it's pretty much the same though imo. Certainly no worse. Sounds like there can be a great variation though.
There have been lots of complaints about the loud fan; I do not see a dedicated thread about it. Maybe i will go start one -
I put my R1 and R3 side by side, brightness turned up all the way viewing both with same powerpoint, webpages, and then photos. I would have to say that I prefer the look of the R3 way better. My preferential choice would be the R3 because the colors look less washed out than they had with the R1. Now this is not nearly [the R3] as good as my Dell 24" screen. I viewed the same pictures on my desktop with the R3, both as close together and same viewing angle as possible. I would have to say that it is a slight but noticable improvement over the R1. Now I can't vouch for an R2 since I never had one.

I'll be getting my 3rd panel within the next few weeks and I fully expect it to measure different than the previous two I've had. It truly is a hit or miss affair. Calibration helps mitigate some of the short comings of these displays, but at the end of the day they're still behind this shamefully glossy plastic mirror. I'm sitting here looking at a beautiful panel (in comparison) on a Dell Latitude 6410. It's embarrassing that a business class notebook has such a superior display to an Alienware. -
-
But are there any third party replacement screens worth getting?
-
Compared to the R1 I had for 4 days, the whites on my R3 tend to be on the yellow side. That being said, I find that the screen doesnt give me a headache like the R1 did.
-
this is the only part of this machine that i don't like. the screen is bright, but it is practically a mirror.
on the one hand, it makes a good spying tool while in the library, lol -

because this m14x is giving me a hard time. Battery problems, lock ups, random shut downs.. The only thing that's keeping me from me giving this up for an r3 is the screen. I know, it's a small problem, to some, like myself, that's a turning point. I just hope they get a fix on this battery problem.
Thanks guys. -
the screen on my R2 is fantastic, i have no complaints i normally have my lappy on power save mode, but as soon as i change to Max performance, BAM!! cant complain...
-
Anybody else have the little lines in the screen? I can see it the most when looking at light colors.
