So my M11x was getting a little hot one day while playing sc2 and frapsing. I thought about getting a laptop cooler a couple times before because the trick of putting the power cord under the back of the laptop wasn't keeping it cool enough. So I got a toiler paper roll, just the cardboard part and cut it into four short tubes. The 1/4 rolls of cardboard are pretty strong, and they keep the M11x about an inch or so off the table or board I set it on. Keeps the temps about 10 degrees celcuis lower, more at times where it would get super hot... Just wanted to tell everyone about the easy, cheap way to cool their laptop lol

Nice! It's amazing how much the temps can drop just by raising the rear of the laptop. I use to use my old materials textbook to keep the back raised but I bought some of these little laptop feet from eBay and they seem to do the trick.

$1.50 well spent but your method is even cheaper!

I use 2 dominoes super glued together x 4 which I got from a Christmas cracker last year.

They look quite smart and are nice and portable as well.

I've found that a large amount of heat from my M11x comes through the keyboard itself.

I discovered this when I tried playing Skyrim the first time using an external display. I had the lid down, and I was getting thermal shutdowns over and over... I opened the lid, and my heat issues stopped completely. It's the weirdest thing ever.

So now When I'm gaming, or even using an external display... I keep my M11x lid open. It's annoying to have to do this, but what choice do I have?

Could you leave it open just a little bit?

That's what I do. I was always scared that I'd melt the plastic over the screen if I kept it shut ;)

I like the ideas. But I agree with you about the keeping the M11x open thing. When I first got an external monitor hooked up to my laptop I realized pretty quickly that keeping it closed increased the temps A LOT. Not sure if there's anything you can actually do about it, but it's not like it's bothersome or anything. As long as the M11x screen isn't on I don't see much of a problem with just keeping it open.

pick up a couple of taller sticky rubber feet and stick them to the back.
