    Hi everyone,

Since I bought my M11x R2, March 2011, I have a problem with Torchlight, it freezes always when I play. Sometimes at 1 hour of playing and other at 20 min. I check the temp and always its OK.

Anyone have this problem? Any solution?

Thanks and sorry about my english!!

update drivers first and see if it persists... since you got R2 and not R1 switching wont get messed up... might just do the trick.

Hi! Thanks bye the anwser but...

I upgrade drivers to 285.62 and I found that found that my media players (MPC, VLC and WMP) are stuck on integrated graphics and cannot switch to the GPU. Because that when I see a movie at 720 or 1080p it goes slowly

After that I downgrade to my previous driver but of coruse the problem persists.

just update to the latest nvidia drivers. i'm running the beta 290.36 drivers.

as for the problems watching hd content on your media players, can't you simply just add the media players' .exe files (MPC, VLC and WMP) to the whitelist and select nvidia gpu?

I will try to update to that drivers and I'll post the results.

According to the VLC problem, the issue is in the whitelist becasue its locked for MPC, VLC and WMP and I can't select nvidia gpu, it's locked in integrated. In other .exe like Starcraft 2, Chrome or anyone else I'ts unlocked.

My R3 runs HD fine with integrated... you could try coreAVC (i think thats the name) codecs, even my old 1000H with puny atom CPU would play 1080p without resizing using those.

I cant update to 290.36 becasue dont support my nvidia GT 335M By the way I update to the last nvidia /dell drivers, 285.62, and Torchlight crashes at 5 minutes with a great BSOD.

I installed the coreAVC drivers and the problem persists with 285.62

Any solution for Torchtlight and VLC??

    Thanks!!

for me coreAVC uses nvidia card by default, though i got no idea whats the point of that as integrated graphics even without coreavc are more than plenty for 1080p not to talk about 720p...

anyways back to torchlight. If you're using steam(i think its steam game?) uninstall all .net frameworks and let steam reinstall them. I'd get problems with .net frameworks etc. quite often to a point i'd need to reinstall windows to get certain games to work... I am not sure if torchlight requires those, but worth a shot i think.

VLC issue: It's so strange!! The new drivers affects in an unusual way with the video players. I dont understand it!! I dont know what to do... :(

Torchlight matter: I will do that you say, in the past (April-May) I reinstall windows and the problem persists also I call Dell serveral times becase its really weird that a game from 2009 have freezes with a M11 R2 but Dell after serveral trials decide to clean their hands and told me that the laptop its ok and they do nothing. When I test the uninstall of .net frameworks i'll post the results.

    Thanks!

after a little scooby dooing i found this http://forum.notebookreview.com/alienware-m11x/630086-quick-fix-media-players-optimus-285-62-a.html which seems to be the exact issue you're having with the media player.

And if frameworks reinstall dont work, some indie games etc. simply aren't tested out with a lot of hardware configurations, thus with some rigs they don't work very well... could possibly have more luck posting on game's forums than here, as people there might have similar issues.

Today I will try to apply the quick fix. Crossing fingers!!!

Torchlight matter. Yesterday night I uninstall the framework and could play Torchlight for 30 minutes more or less without freezes or BSOD's today I'll try to play for an hour and see if crashes or not... But.... after the torchlight test I played Starcraft 2 and after 20 minutos a BSOD appears to me. First of times with Starcraf neves happens with previous drivers. Seems the problem is in nvlddmkm.sys

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks for your time!

could be that some files got corrupt in windows installation. How old is your R2, if its mechanical drive it could be that it is failing, same is happening with my 3.5" desktop HDD (750GB) windows and the HDD think they wrote the data, but say if i try to extract it from archive, winrar detects that the file is corrupt... Try scanning your HDD for bad sectors etc.

It's from March of this Year. Last week I scanned HDD with tuneup and no bad reports. Any better tool to scan?
