    Hey guys,

Hopefully you can help me out. I am getting a friend over in the USA to bring a m11x back with him to Australia (basically I save about $1000 doing this), but I want to somehow transfer the warranty to Australia from the USA. Is there any way I can do this? I don't mind paying a fee etc.

    Thanks

    Hi Xytech,
I got my M11x from the states shipped to Taiwan from a friend. I called my local Alienware tech support, and they transferred my warranty within a week. There's a form online to fill out, and it's a pretty easy and straightforward process.

Do a search on Google for "Dell ownership transfer".

There is a form you fill out, which transfers the ownership to you. Once you are the owner of the laptop, any warranty also gets transferred under your name. I believe that you are allowed to transfer across regions.

    Hey guys,

Just to give you a heads up on this: just talked on the Dell chat and they said:

Welcome to Dell US Chat! My name xxxxxx. and i will be your Dell.com Chat expert. I can be reached at [email protected] or via voicemail at 1-800-379-3355 Ext-2160085. How can i help you today?
    Hi hows it going.
hi Axxxxx. :) glad you chatted in today.
I am looking at getting an Alienware M11X with the 3 year standard warranty. I will however be moving to Australia soon after purchasing it. I was wondering if there is a way I will be able to move the warranty from Dell USA to Dell Australia.
I'll be glad to assist you on that.
    great :)
Yep. you will get international warranty if you have atleast 3 years of warranty.
    oh i see
do i have to do anything for that?
or will it just automatically apply
Nope. you don't have to do anything. it will be automatic on your account.
    great
    and so just to confirm
that is with the 3 year "basic" warranty
and if it breaks down in australia for example, i can just call up dell/alienware australia and get it sorted out?
    Yes that is correct.
    wonderful
    thanks a lot!

Sorry, I don't buy this response from CS. I'd check again before purchasing a 3 year just to have support outside your location - Dell Aus seems to have issues.

I agree.. You have to have 3 years for international? From what I've heard even the basic one you get for free can be transferred...

I can be reached at [email protected] or via phone at 1-800-BUY-DELL ext. 4161523. How can I help you today?"

11/02/2010 11:13:25AM Agent (Vishnu V): "How may I help you with your purchase today?"

11/02/2010 11:17:33AM Agent (Vishnu V): "1 year basic service plan is an international warranty"

Again, as mentioned previously, the person who encountered this with a rep most likely just had the unfortunate luck of dealing with a rep with little knowledge or one looking at beefing a warranty sale. Even with the 1 yr base warranty, if you re-locate, you should be fine. Always check with the support team for the region you will be relocating to and make sure to transfer your information if needed.

Thanks for confirming and letting us know.

Reminder, please do not cross post. see forum rules. Thanks :)

these customer service guys are useless. That conversation above was throught the dell 24/7. Today I talked to an alienware rep during there open time and this is the conversation, :

    Time Details
11/03/2010 08:05:19PM System: "Thanks for choosing Chat to assist you in making your purchase on Dell.com. An Alienware representative will be with you shortly."
11/03/2010 08:05:39PM System: "We apologize for the delay. Due to high demand, we are experiencing slightly longer wait times. An Alienware representative will be with you as soon as possible."
11/03/2010 08:06:09PM System: "Thanks again for your patience. We strive to help make every customer extremely satisfied, and will be with you as soon as possible."
11/03/2010 08:07:09PM System: "We apologize again for the delay, and hope that you will wait for an Alienware representative to help you."
11/03/2010 08:17:48PM Session Started with Agent (Mohammed F)
    11/03/2010 08:17:58PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Hi mark :)"
    11/03/2010 08:18:12PM mark: "hi"
11/03/2010 08:18:14PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Welcome to Dell US Chat! My name is Mohammed and I will be your Dell.com Sales Chat Expert.
I can be reached at [email protected] or via phone at 1-800-289-3355 ext. 4161529 How can I help you today?"
11/03/2010 08:18:35PM mark: "i was wondering about the 1 or 3 yr warranty that you can get with a m11x"
11/03/2010 08:18:53PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Great! I would be happy to help you with that"
11/03/2010 08:18:55PM mark: "are they international, if i am travelling or move to another country"
11/03/2010 08:19:13PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Basic Service Plan : Provides essential break/fix hardware protection backed by our 24x7 phone based technicians and award winning support website (in-home or mail-in options available"
11/03/2010 08:19:34PM Agent (Mohammed F): "And any with the option with the In home service plan is International warranty"
11/03/2010 08:20:23PM mark: "so basic warranty should be international. so if it breaks in another country it can be fixed there"
11/03/2010 08:20:57PM Agent (Mohammed F): "The basic cover's only technical support"
11/03/2010 08:21:17PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Not the breaks Mark"
11/03/2010 08:22:08PM mark: "so if i buy a new laptop and something goes wrong in the 1st year it's not covered to be fixed? i.e. the hinge breaks"
11/03/2010 08:22:42PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Yes that will be covered provided if there is manufacturing fault"
11/03/2010 08:22:57PM Agent (Mohammed F): "But not with the breaks which happen 's by the customer"
11/03/2010 08:23:35PM mark: "i see. and if there is a manufacturing fault that comes apparent while i am overseas it can be fixed overseas in another countrry?"
    11/03/2010 08:23:52PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Yes that's right"
11/03/2010 08:24:53PM mark: "oh thats good. so the acvanced service plan is probably better since if i do somehting to it, it can be fixed. and its not that much more expensive"
11/03/2010 08:25:09PM Agent (Mohammed F): "yes the advance is much better"
11/03/2010 08:25:17PM Agent (Mohammed F): "Includes all the Basic features, plus accidental damage service (formerly known as Complete Care) for protection in the event of breaks, spills, and drops."
11/03/2010 08:25:45PM mark: "only another 100 for a 3 year advanced. sounds like a good deal."
11/03/2010 08:25:54PM Agent (Mohammed F): "This is advance plan"
11/03/2010 08:26:01PM mark: "cool, thanks for your help i will have to have a serious think about it now"
