is there a button or program to turn off display?

I dont like closing screen lid because it makes a weird robot skipping sound. and I do not want to turn my screensaver on because it gets annoying when I am trying to read and screen goes blank.

You can go into control panel/power options/when to turn off display and you can set it to as little as a minute.

Or you can get a small magnet and put on the right front corner of the palm rest and the screen will turn off and the computer with think the lid is closed.

And it will trigger the same sound the OP wants to avoid.

I wanted the same functionality, so I wrote a script to do this.
To use, simply press Alt+F6 to turn off the screen.

    Here is the source code
    Here is the download link.

    Enjoy!

Wow I was looking for something to disable my LCD when idle and ran into this little forum. Saw the post of the download which enables ALT + F6 to disable the LCD and it works amazingly I'm super satisfied YAY lol

I will post an alternative. This was posted a long time ago and I find it useful. It adds an icon you can click for the same effect. I prefer it to a button combo.
I am not the person who made this but it works well.

I use nircmd for this --> NirCmd - Windows command line tool
Just create a shortcut on your desktop to nircmdc.exe monitor off
I have it pinned to the taskbar for convenience.
