I have several USB drives (External HDD's)... they all work on other machines. However, on my M11x (which i just got yesterday) they don't show up. I have an error on my USB Mass Storage Device:

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

The driver is a generic MS driver. I have uninstalled the driver and rebooted. I have tried multiple ports. The ports seem to work fine for everything else as well (keyboard, mouse, headset...). All my drives work fine on all my other machines (Windows XP and Windows 7).

    Any ideas?

Since you just got it yesterday I assume you haven't updated all your drivers yet, you might want to do that first.

drivers have nothing to do with this.
if this is a flash drive then it should automatically have drivers in windows for it. there's something else up. which revision of the m11x are you using?

Actually... I have. Not sure if the USB Mass Storage Device driver was part of the updates... perhaps packaged with another update. Maybe Windows 7 SP1? It worked right out of the box. But there is no ability to rollback the drivers as it does not give me the option.

I get the same error when I tried to reinstall my intel 6200 wifi card.

Restart the computer, push f8 a bunch of times to go into smoe random screen. there is a option to run with out the signatures, but you have to hit f8 every boot up to get it to work.

This at least will let you access your stuff till you figure out whats going on.

It is not just flash devices. It wont work with CD drives, External powered and non-powered HDD's or flash drives. All USB Mass Storage Devices. Currently the driver installed is the:

    Driver Provider: Microsoft
    Driver Date: 6/21/2006
    Driver Version: 6.1.7601.17577
    Digital Signer: Microsoft Windows

And shows the following in Device status:

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)

...and yes all these devices work fine on all my other equipment.

This worked. Thanks! I still would like to figure out what the root of the issue is. Did you ever get yours figured out?

I would try to copy all working driver's files from other computer to a laptop and tried to manually install drivers.

Looks like I got a lemon (not specifically this issue alone). Returning this one. I have decided to upgrade to the M14x, much to the shagrin of my wife. So, I guess I'll see you M11x guys around. It was fun while it lasted. Well not entirely... Thanks for the help. :p
