    I got my m11x R1 on Wednesday.

I have been trying to download some demos on Steam (ArcadiA - Gothic 4) specifically. It refuses to play, it goes straight to the store screen, so I thought I should update my graphics card driver. That didn't seem to help so I turned off the user account control in the hopes that it would allow that game to load. I did a restart and as soon as the desktop loaded I noticed how awful everything looks. Nothing is nearly as sharp and the resolution was off. I reset the resolution to the highest offered in control manager but that didn't help. I uninstalled the driver and then reinstalled. Still, it looks pretty terrible.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my m11x to look as great as it did before?

    Thanks for any help!

download the nvidia drivers from dells support page, and install those. should solve your problem. also try installing the lastest version of directx

but i would suggest using a program called driver cleaner before installing the new drivers. if that doesnt work you could just do a fresh install of windows, and install your drivers. sometimes its the best option

Some games require .dll's that steam doesn't provide. One of the most common ones is the xlive.dll (had to install this for Dirt 2 and GTA IV) And for that you need to download the latest Games for Windows - LIVE

And yeah I would also suggest installing VC++ res as well as DX

Usually you find all the necessary files required to run the game in the game folder. Usually called 'redist' or 'directx'

Also I dont want to state the obvious but make sure you are using the NVIDIA GPU. I know you have R1 but maybe you messed up in BIOS... Also try the Hybrid drivers on these forums. The Intel 2020 + 260.99 seem to leave everyone happy.

Thanks for the help, guys. No idea what the actual issue was but after doing many things that probably could have gotten me in even more trouble, everything seems to be working. I'm done trying to change anything again for quite awhile!

Did you set it to run on the nVidia GPU?

The Intel GPU makes everything look horrible, in addition to being slow...

How would I adjust which GPU it was set to? I hadn't know it was a possibility to change it...

well, you have to use FN+F6... but you probably already know that. I actually wasn't really reading when I made that post (I'm sorry :(), and I assumed you had the R2 model :(.
