My adapter that camem with my m11x had the little prong inside break. So I called Dell and they said they had one for 60 bucks, however won't ship for another 3-5 weeks (more like 8-12 weeks our time).

I looked at the excat model they were selling, a 65 watt power cord, and noticed that it worked with other Dell laptops as well. So I did a search and finally came across a Cooler master that said it worked with the same models that the M11x power adapter worked with.

Ok, so here is my dilemma... I got the coolwer master today and compared the input/outputs as listed below.

    Original cord

    65W
    Input: 100-240V- 50-60Hz , 1.7A
    Output: 19.5V 3.34A
    PA-Family 12

    Cooler Master cord

    Model# RP-065-S19A-J1
    65W
    Input: 100-240V- 50-60Hz , 1.5A
    Output: 19V 3.42A
    PA-Family 12

So because the Input and outputs are a little off, is that going to ruin my battery or anything else?

I cant advise on the battery question however, FWIW - IMO, always stick with Dell for batteries and PSUs. I had a bad experience ordering an aftermarket batt and PSU on a Inspiron and after that swore I would just stick with Dell. Piece of mind knowing the batts have a 1 yr warranty - not sure on the PSU but I'm sure they will cover it if it dives on you.

Isn't your 11x still under warranty?

Output is what you care about and I doubt 1 watt is going to make a difference. I think you're safe. BTW I plugged a 65 watt into my new M11x R2 and it as it was POSTing it notified me that I had a 65 watt charger (a Dell) and that my battery would take longer to charge (since stock is 95 watts). It's nice to know that Dell power supplies are pretty compatible among their laptops.

Well I plugged it in, and it gave power but said it would not charge, I just ordered another PSU from another website that claimed it was for the m11x... 70 more bucks, bah. But I can't wait 2 months for Dell.

Yes I have a Warranty still, is the psu covered?

It powers the laptop, but won't charge the battery? If so that makes sense if so as I remember my coworkers complaining about it now that I recall.

Ha, Thanks for all your guys help, and especially thanks to Batboy for mentioning Warranty, I never thought that the PSU would be covered, (BTW long time bud, how ya been).

I called up Dell they are sending me a replacement next week for free, Good ole Alienware tech support. So I canceled the 70 dollar one ($40 bucks was just overnight shipping) and I guess I'll send back the coolermaster to tech support. Good thing I still have my m15x as a replacement for the time being, but my gosh this thing is enormous. :p

As you found out Steven, yes - as far as I know from previous dealings with Dell on adapters, PSUs are covered by the system warranty. Batteries have their own warranty terms - 1 year from time of purchase (be it system or individual batt purchase). Glad you were able to get it sorted.

Just wondering though, Is it safe on my battery/computer to use the cord that doesn't charge until the replacement cord gets here?
