Hey guys so I have a problem here. I'm using 890 to 990 mb of memory on my standby. I check to see why im using so much memory. But I can't find it. Help is appreciated.

Oh by the way guys. I tried turning off my anti-virus but it does not matter =/
-
you can turn those off in msconfig. also running gamebooster helps if your not very computer savy.
everything you need to get ram usage down is in msconfig. -
Thats decent. My old M11x r2 was using 1.3gb in standby and that was with a lot disabled... i'd be happy with anything <1gb

i'm jealous

Hmm okay.... And I need my ram upgrade really soon =/. I'm trying to play CPU kinda games and it really gets slow sometimes.

Why a memory upgrade won't help?
-
and YES there's a huge ammount of proccess than make slowdown your system look and the "Starup" entries to see what app are running when windows star that maybe help too
another good app is cCleaner http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner
cheers! -

If you are running XP(if it's even possible) and uses 8XX-9XX MB of memory on idle, you have some great trouble.
But if you are running 7...I'm really jealous lol
Oh and of course RAM won't help much in gaming performance. It only helps in general usages and has OMGTHATSREALLYLITTLE effect on gaming performance(unless you have less than 2GB which in this case you aren't)
Instead of RAM upgrade, you should consider a GPU overclock or even a CPU-pinmodding. -
try idling at less then 400mb in windows 7i usualy dont go over that.
-
what's wrong with having 900mb on standby? ..

Excess memory use only really matters if your system starts using your page file. Paging memory to disk is an overhead (slightly less if using an SSD) you can and should do without.
In the old days, carefully managed paging was just part of managing RAM on a midrange OS. But with the reduction in the price of RAM, it's not so much the case now.
By disabling pre-loading applications into memory, only means you're extending start-up times for those apps. People mostly only disable pre-installing applications if they don't have the physical memory.
However, now with Hybrid HDD/SSD and SSD pre-loading apps into memory for fast start-up is becoming less important.
I idle at around 1.3GB(4GB RAM installed) on my M11xR1, mind you I have Apache server, MySQL server, PHP, Java, Perl and the list goes on.
I've never seem memory exceed 3GB, unless I'm running a couple of VM's which use approx 1GB RAM each.
I have a WinXP Toshiba Portege 3110CT 'netbook' which idles at 80MB RAM with Avast anti-virus included. The reason for this is that, the 'netbook' concerned, only has 192MB physical RAM. -
I'm using windows 7. I was actually considering buying an SDD but then Ill have to make a hole new installation and well I'm pretty much a newbie doing that. I don't even know where to start =/ . Thanks Nand@ Ill try using that program. I also have cCleaner its prettyyyy good

I don't see the issue with having 900mb of memory usage when going into standby.
It's only going to take a few seconds longer to write to the hard drive, and as long as your not going over the amount of ram you have and hitting the page file, you won't have any performance hit's either. -
