I've been remotely accessing my work computer via WoWLAN using Teamviewer from my M11x (personal computer), iPad, and Android phone. It works fine as I never turn that computer off or put it to sleep. It is simply 'logged off' when I leave work every day.

Now, there have been numerous times that I wished I could do the opposite: access my M11x from my work computer. If I leave it on, it will work fine. However, 90% of the time I have the computer put to sleep before heading to work.

I have read online that Windows 7 has the capability of waking a computer from sleep mode, even on wireless, by a thing called Magic Packet. I have looked at the options for our DW1520 wireless cards, and it seems to support this feature (it is actually enabled by default). However, I am unable to get it working.

First thing I did was create the DWORD string as mentioned on this guide:

Configure Wake on Wireless LAN (WoWLAN)

I then tried ticking and unticking all the 3 boxes under 'Power Management' tab of the DW1520 card and still no luck.

Finally, I downloaded the Magic Packet Monitor tool from depicus.com welcomes you - wake on lan and wake on wan and I can see the packets coming in from both, my iPad and my Android phone. However, when the computer is put to sleep, it doesn't work; no packets are received.

The only thing I can think of is that our motherboards don't support this Wake On Lan ability. The reason I say that is that I see no options to enable/disable it under the BIOS.

    Any ideas?

As far as I know it needs to be supported in BIOS just like any other network interface. I think you're outta luck.

:( Really? I'm surprised if that's the case. We have top notch components on this lil' beast and we can't support basic features such as these? Shame on AW!

Well, in Alienware's defense (assuming it isn't supported) - that's a pretty niche feature...better suited for corporate/office/professional environments.
