I've wanted one of these m11x since they came out, but since I have a decent desktop never really could justify it.

There must be a new revision coming out because the coupons and discounts have been nuts. I pulled the trigger on the R1 base model with $200 off, another $50 coupon and if they honor it, another $60 cashback from Discover. All in all, about $522 shipped, just a bit more than the price of a netbook. I had been thinking about getting a 3820tg for about $800 from Canada, but I have an Acer 1410t and while it's a workhorse, it just feels... cheap. Especially that chiclet keyboard.

I didn't go for the newer R2 model (even though I REALLY wanted the soft touch black) just because I know a new model will be coming out soon (gotta be with these clearances) and the newer one has the same video card. Plus the cheapest I could get the R2 was about $877. I won't be disappointed seeing a new model come out when I only paid $500. Can't believe I'm going to own an Alienware for that much... They said I should have it by the end of next week.

Very nice buy, though i wouldn't count on an R3 to soon, expect an annoucement this winter/spring of when they plan to release it. I think it will be around 2011 summer/early fall

Cool, don't want the new one out TOO soon. :D

If this laptop is as good as the Laptop Magazine review says, it should work well for travel.... Decent screen and pretty good speakers for music and I have the dedicated video card if I need it for some light gaming!

Even if they come out with a new one that shouldnt effect you too much. If they stay with the X35 level then the increase wont be huge (infact could be a downgrade due to the 435 having less bandwidth) and plus new tech comes out all the time so you cant always keep up with it unless youre a millionaire. The r1 will serve you well Im sure.

Thanks guys! I even watched a few unboxing videos on YouTube. I'm a NEEEERD! :p

I see that they don't include the swag like they used to like mice, shirts, hats, mousepads, etc, but when the computers are that inexpensive I guess I can understand why.

The only computers coming out of AW anymore with the hat, mousepad are the brand new m15x and m17x. The m11x doesn't come with them even brand new :(

I got my m11x on Saturday and am very happy with it. I ordered the base model and popped in 4gb of ram and a 640gb hard drive, which cost me a total of under $100.

I didn't know this until I watched an unboxing video of the M15x (to see the bundled software) and noticed the Hat and mousepad.

I was so annoyed that I sat there with the M11x "felt" bag on my head for the next two hours constantly saying "I have my hat now".

My wife was a *little* worried to say the least. :p

This made me LOL. For real. The military folks I work with now think I'm crazy. Err, well, more so.

You cannot assume that a new model is coming out just because they have coupons and discounts. The only thing that coupons / discounts tell you is that they want to sell more units.

I promise you, you are not going to see an M11x R3 available for consumer purchase until at the very earliest another 9-12 months.

Yeah, maybe you're right. Just thought the discounts were pretty deep... Can't imagine what the profit margins are on a machine like that. Then again, with parts in bulk and overseas assembly...

Don't care too much though! :D

I think I paid a great price for a formidable little machine and I'm looking forward to trying it out.

Dell can afford to discount deeply because it lets them sell high-margin accessories.

Many companies will sell the base product nearly at-cost, and make their profit on the accessories that they sell you (extra RAM, extended support contracts, larger hard drives, extra chargers, laptop bags, printers, mice, keyboards, etc).

Really?? Hmm... Guess they didn't do too good with me.

I didn't upgrade anything or get any accessories! I didn't even spring for the expedited shipping. ;-)

Well, I got my first so-so impression and it hasn't even shipped.

Dell left me a message to verify the order and I had to listen to it three times to understand what they were saying, and then once more to interpret the phone number and extension.

After calling in and getting past their phone menu, I heard some clicks and someone answered with "Hello?" Really? Hello? Then I enjoyed ten minutes repeating my order information. Oh well, I guess with credit card fraud they gotta do this.

(I sure wouldn't mind a native English speaker, but then again I like getting a laptop for $500.) :p
