I decided that the heftier price of the R2, forced Optimus even in apps that don't make sense like Google Chrome, shorter battery life and supplemental heat weren't worth it. Most games are primarily GPU-limited than CPU limited because they're made first and foremost for consoles.

I knew I could never replicate the desktop PC experience on the go, so I made my pick accordingly. I'll just overclock the CPU if things get laggy with more CPU-heavy games.

ne1 ordered theirs from eastern Canada? I'm in Quebec here, how long should it take to get here?

What about the REAL battery life on normal desktop task, instead of Dell's fantasy numbers?

Actually you can manually control which application uses with GPU using the R2, just add it to the "whitelist".
When I first got my R2, playing video on chrome kicks in the GPU, all I had to do was manually change it from "automatic" to "integrated only". Now I can watch videos all I want in chrome or do whatever I want w/o worrying.

Thats weird. I'm using 257.30 (dell official release) as well and I don't have the problem with Chrome.

I'm using 257 also and apparently the Opera browser was using the GPU. Added to the whitelist to force usage of IG, and now I have 4:50hrs, at 94%.

Previously it was 3 hours, because of Youtube I believe.

    Thanks for the tip.

The system may be turning on the discrete GPU in browsers due to Flash/Shockwave plugins rather then the browser itself. If Chrome is set to use the intel GPU and Flash is set to use the nVidia GPU, the nVidia card will take over.

Good choice' my friend has a r2 & actually prefers the R1. Within the next 2 years or so . there will be somethin better then m11x. So in the meantime, the r1 will suffice because if your really into hardcore gaming, especially shooters, you got counsels. ;)

Thanks, I knew I'd made the right choice. Yeah you're right, in 3 years I'll buy a new mini-portable that will be leaps and bounds beyond the m11x.

I see u have it too... how about battery life?

Latest Official driver as of today is 257.30, it's on support.dell.com (just enter your service tag). While you're there, it would be good to update your intel integrated graphics driver too.

The unofficial driver is 259.something, it's somewhere in the forum, you need to edit some INF files, search for the thread.
