Im kinda out of it on benchmark tests these days. Ive been milking an old desktop for years (Athlon 3800+, 2gig DDR400, ATI 4670, 500gb 7200). It has become....well....old (four years at least). Im not a huge gamer, but enjoy WoW and a few Valve titles (HL2, Portal, CS and so on....). So I wanted to run something to test my old system. Then in a week when I get home, run the same on the M11x (which I have note even seen yet due to out-of-town) to see how much better it is. I would like something free, but buying a benchmark software is not off the table. Ideas anyone?

Oh and I want to play Rift, but the "old" desktop isnt even close with a singlecore dated CPU.

    Just use 3DMark06 from futuremark.com

I have a similar machine: Core 2 Duo E6850 3.0GHz, ATI 4670, 4GB DDR2 and 3DMark06 for that is about 7700. I was able to overclock to get about 8500.

On my M11xR1 I got ~ 6500 stock, and with GPU and CPU overclock I get about 7400 now. So almost comparable, but not quite.

Just noticed though you have a single core CPU which will greatly limit you in newer games. The dual core should help out matters there.

Thx! Im downloading now for Old system test. Its still gona take a week to get back home and test it on my new R1 (waiting in box at home still). But Im still thinking its gona be a big jump from an Athlon64 3800+.

3dmark benchies are a poor way to determine performance as they are very cpu biased. Use games for a true reflection

You should get about a score of 6100 with a stock R1

fYI: I find a very close reflection in 3dmark06 to how well source games play (and other games).

In TF2 i was getting about 20-40FPS on full servers with a 3dmark of around 6k, now after some OCing i get about 40-60 with a 3dmark of around 8k.

wPrime is always good for testing the sear grunt of your CPU.
Cinebench is another tool which can be used to test CPU and GPU across multiple platforms.

Windows WEI is good for ball park figures and a quick overview... if you have Win7 or WinVista installed.

    A single core Pentium 4 Hyper-threaded 3.2Ghz (Prescott) gives you a WEI of 4.3 under Windows 7 (wPrime 32MB 98sec).

    3DMark06 CPU score for P4 3.2Ghz is 924(Ouch)

    SM2.0 Score 2339
    HDR/SM3.0 Score 3030 (ATI HD 3850)
    CPU Score 924

    An Intel C2D SU7300 1.6Ghz gives you a WEI of 4.6 (wPrime 32MB 55sec)

I have gotten 6950 3DMarks (06) on my standard M11xR1 with both CPU and GPU over-clocked.

    Highest CPU 3DMark06 score I have listed on my M11xR1 SU7300 1.6Ghz C2D was 1467

Ok after spending last night doing setup, here is the 3Dmark06 from my R1

    SM2.0 Score 2974
    HDR/SM3.0 Score 2994
    CPU Score 1412

    Overall Score 6392 3DMarks

Cpu went up, gfx not so much, gota look at my vid driver. 3Dmark is reading the C2D as Processor clock1595 MHz, which isnt bad at all. So far Im really happy with my first AW.

damn. did you do any gpu overclocking?
    my scores were:

    sm2.0: about 3519
    HDR/SM3.0: 4012
    CPU: 1600

thats with everything maxed out. cpu pin modded @1.73ghz, and gpu overclocked to whats in my sig. and this was at stock 3dm06 settings.

edit: i bet you guys 5 bucks each i could get 2-300 points more in xp.

I just did the basic OC in the bios and switched the gfx. So far only tried Portal 2, very playable at mid to high settings. Im still a bit unsure about trying Rift. Such joy. Glad I went for the Ram upgrade over HD (went with 4Gig and stayed with 5400rpm) for the budget I was on.

you have the R1, so you need to use the dell driver if you want to be able to switch graphics...

if you wanna use discrete graphics i recommend the new 275.27 beta drivers.
