I feel sick. Just got my R1 less then an hour ago from Dell Outlet and after completing windows update. I had to manually shut down the machine. After which I started it up and shut it down after booting into windows to see if it was going to continue to do that. After which I noticed the hinge creak actually a popping sound. Now the question isn't about the hinges as I know this has been rehashed over and over, but will this be considered cosmetic damages and not covered by my 1 yr warranty since this is from Dell Outlet? Any ideas?![]()

Hoping erawneila will chime in before I call dell about this, to help me with what to tell them.

If the hinges break then that's most certainly not a cosmetic defect.
Creaks or squeaks do not necessarily equate to broken hinges. They're common for most laptops and generally don't last very long unless it's something like a plastic on plastic. The hinges on my R2 were quite for weeks, then had a slight squeak, then progressed to something a little louder and now are back to barely squeaking. -
You can see a bent hinge pin and the sound i here is from the screw pulling in and out of the plastic !!! You can see the flex. More of a pop i edited my post to reflect this. -
I've never looked into the warranty that outlet models might have, but that has to be covered under warranty. It should never have been sold in that condition. Period.
Call 'em up and raise hell. -
If you are worried I suggest calling Dell. Speak with support. Follow up posts belong here -
