I would definitely reformat and reinstall from your Alienware disk before selling it, get rid of any personal info, banking stuff, "free" games, etc. You would have to sell it "as-is" on ebay as the keyboard is broken.

At least yours functions, mine died arrgh >_< I'm probably going to keep and fix mine though later on. Do you know which revision of the m11x you have? One of the major flaws of the R1 was the darn hinge- they would break after a certain time. Check that too, it might lessen or increase the value of your laptop.

Just do a format or a factory restore, it will remove any of your data and restore it to the condition it was when you got it (minus the keyboard i guess).

This guide may be useful: How to install Windows 7

You'll need an external optical drive for this, or a USB flash drive with a Windows 7 image

Send us an email: AWsocialmedia at dell.com, I'll set up a remote session and fix it for you. Include your service tag, and a brief description to pull your case up quickly.

    1) Do a fresh install
    2) CHECK YOUR DVD DRIVE - make sure you haven't left anything in there
    3) Get some canned air from Staples or Walmart or whatever you have near you - give the air vents, the keyboard, and the various sockets a once over
    4) Get a microfiber cloth and put a few drops of water on it. Wipe down the screen and case re-wetting as needed
    5) If you want to keep your nameplate remove this as well
    6) Place all recovery/driver cd's, manuals, paperwork in a ziplock bag so you don't forget to give them to the new owner
    7) Sell it!

What you need to do is:

    Re install the operating system
Make sure you delete all the existing partitions
Create a new partition with at least 15GB (20GB to be sure if you'd like)
Then create a partition with the remaining space in your hard drive
Install windows in the bigger partition
Install all the drivers needed for your computer
    M11x R1
    M11x R2
    M11x R3
Once all the drivers are installed, download and install Alienrespawn

Also, here's the wallpapers that came with the computer, as well as the software that you purchased it with.

Let us know how it goes!
