First thing, this thread is not suggesting the current M11X is not good enough, I have one on the way and I know I will be extremely pleased when I get it. This is just for fun and we all like to speculate (as long as you don't take it seriously...).
So what would make you buy the next M11X? Or if you have purchased one, what would make you upgrade? Try to be realistic with what you are after (not dual GFX/HD's etc).
For me it would only be a few things to make it my ultimate dream machine. First i'd love there to be a Nebula Red paint option, this would be the best performance bang for buck upgrade you could get; we all know red makes everything go faster (it's common sense).
Next i'd love it if they put an iX processor of some form in, as long as it improves performance subnstantially without a big hit on battery life. Or i'd be happy with another C2D if they had the base clock around 2.0ghz, that would be perfect.
The 335m that is already in the M11X is very capable, but it'd be great to have the option to upgrade to maybe a single 4870 (since it is rumoured they will become obsolete with the new M17X and AW would probably have a few around).
These features would probably be costly, but i'd gladly buy it in a heartbeat and it would be one hell of a formidable machine. But I don't really have a lot of hardware/tech knowledge so maybe this setup is going to explode as soon as I open solitaire or last 15 minutes on a 5.4 million cell battery. Feel free to correct me and add your own suggestions!

Faster shipping time.
-
mousepad and cap
-
Hahahaha those posts are full of win. I love how a million people have been complaining about the processor and then you guys come in and just go "give me a cap and send it to me quick and you sir have got yourself a customer".
+1 -
If this current model had at least an i3 cpu, I would immediately pull the trigger. As it stands now, I think I will wait for a refresh. I think the video card is more than enough.
-
eSATA and true HDMI instead of FireWire and DisplayPort.
non-glare screen.
Touchscreen! -
I was thinking about this, just worried about the effect on weight it will have. Plus once you throw the kitchen sink in people will be expecting a handwash dispenser and an oven, this will probably put the m11x out of the price range for general consumers. People will then be saying "well if I want the whole BBQ i'll just go the m17x for $50 more".
Not sure the industry is ready for that in an m11x yet. -
a 13in screen, I am sure it will fit in the current form factor
-
On the reals:
- a bit lighter...
- improved cpu
- lose some of the screen bezel
- come with a sleeve -
lighter, better cpu, discrete AW look. I wouldn't mind seeing a 13" version that's CHEAPER
and the ability to say your name when you sign on. -
Honestly not much, if they just keep improving it as the tech progresses I think it is just about perfect. Unlike some I really don't want anything like Optimus, I like having the control to decide maybe I want a little less fps or something in a video for the extra battery life. In its current form it is incredibly snappy, great performing in games, light, long battery life. Nothing I can really say today that I would add.
-
Something to add to the list that I would have liked:
a multitouch pad. It's supposed to be portable and I'm not going to wipe out a mouse all the time. a multitouch pad, like those of the macbook, would add greatly to functionality. -
-
@darka
really?? I know it comes with side/vertical scrollers but I havn't read about the ability to change it to multitouch through drivers. Anyone have done this with other laptops? -
I've done it with my cousin's laptop.. although I don't remember the process.. shouldn't be too hard!
-
I would just say a better processor, and maybe put in a fingerprint scanner.
-
K how about this. Next M11x should have a built in second screen and wacom tablet.
Pure absurdity and awesomeness.
^ Yes a desktop replacement laptop by Lenovo is gonna have that... -
-
Yes, the command center does let you. Sensitivity and enable/disable scrolling, but to my knowledge, the touchpad is not multitouch. This is a feasable addition that the future m11x should have in standard.
-
I would like to see the biggest touchpad they can feasibly put in there... and maybe a fingerprint login, the facial recognition stuff is really sensitive to lighting and never works for me.
-
weigh 3 pounds
-
a ~1.6GHz core i CPU
less bezel
larger and multi-touch touchpad
aluminum shell(whole thing, including palmrest - not necessarily unibody)
optimus technology
swappable battery
that would a dream 'gaming netbook.'(do we have to use a new term to describe the m11x now?)
EDIT: i'd also like to see geeks work out more so that having a light notebook becomes less of a big deal(as you can tell, i hate plastics when aluminum is - err, should be - a perfectly viable option) -
much better CPU, only turn off about the current M11x for me.
-
Hey all,
Is there going to be another wave of m11x, possibly with a stronger cpu? Just wondering, so I know whether or not to wait, and to wait on another coupon-deal/or not. I worry about the CPU because I will primarily play Starcraft 2 btw.
Thanks -
Considering the minimum specs for the closed beta that I've found:
PC Minimum Requirements:
• Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7
• 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
• 1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
• 128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card
• 1024x768 minimum display resolution
• 4 GB free hard space (Beta)
• Broadband connection
One can assume it will require a less powerful machine to run final code. The SU7300/SU4100 are both Core 2 Duo's (despite calling the SU4100 a dual core Pentium, it's still the same darn thing), and typically are about twice as powerful as the rated Pentium 4, if not moreso considering dual core, hyperthreading, etc. So if a single core 2.2GHz P4 can run it minimally, it's easy to assume final product will run maxed out on the M11x. Check out some YouTube videos.
Check out this one. It's on "Ultra" settings and runs perfectly fine.

It's very concievable they could put in an ultra low (or even just low) voltage arrandale in to boost performance considerably. If they did I would actually seriously consider an m11x. But to answer the OP's question, I don't think Dell will update it for atleast some time, considering they just got this system released not long ago. But I could be wrong, but there's no official information that says when/if they will update the m11x.
-
The ability to overclock this thing brings it to the base iX speeds
-
an update will of course come my friends keep in mind the reason they are selling the core 2 in a beautiful new product that has much apeal and very well priced, this is becuase they are trying to sell the rest of there core 2 ulv
,very smart move i think becuase if the decide to wait they would lose money in the long run, so yes they will update with the new i7"they also offer better battery life, by about 5 watts i believe, to lazy to double check tho haha" keep in mind guys it's a logical theory knowing alienware's track record.
-
if the CPU gets a bump I can't see it improving much in terms of framerates. Besides the i5/i7 chipsets that are bound for the M11x are bound to be of the ULV variety, and they won't offer much of a performance boost and will probably have a slight decrease in battery life.
Now if Alienware somehow came up with a way to cram a 260m chipset (or a gpu with similar capability) into the M11x, that would be an upgrade... -
-
Faster ram. 800Mhz? Really? You can OC the M15x RAM to close to 1600Mhz. That's twice as fast. Also, I think that a better touchpad would be cool. Maybe a swiveling screen.
-
When AMD step up their Neo CPU to 12NM, 6 cores and only uses [email protected] adding a Mini micro version ATI 5970 all crammed up with a 12 cell battery slice built under the New M11x/Removable and...adding better RBG 1600x900, 8GB DDR3@1600mhz at $999.99 then all needed is to add your own SSD!!! Of course this would never happened!
-
Can't say that a ULV will perform like a i3. -
Have you guys with touchpad issues tried synaptics Scrybe?? As far as what I'd like to see on the next M11x, nothing really. I would however like to see a custom BIOS.
-
"Borg edition" skin. With more lights!
Or at least some simple docking station...
-
I want a PEZ dispenser in the next refresh!
-
12 hours of battery life!!! The first battery powered computer had a 12 hour battery life, why now the M11x? Of course, the first battery powered computer was mac (ewww!!!) weighed 20 pounds by itself and had a 2 pound battery.
-
I'd like an upgraded battery if possible without compromising on the size. The option for a ix processor and WWAN included in the basic package without it either being left out of some markets all together or having to pay extra.
-
Next thing you know, people here will want liquid cooling and a LV Quad Core processor.
My m11x is already great as it is.
-
5.1 surround sound jacks, heck, I'd like that on the M15x.
-
More color options... Red to match the other lines.
-
scratch and sniff stickers.
-
More chassis colours. i do think i5 core should be an option in the next 6 months.
-
not ripping people off of 100.00usd for a processor in which a diffrence is no diffrence intel sells the su4100 for the same price as a su7300
-
-
A solid steel version. Evrything that can be steel, is steel. And not the stainless stuff. I'm talking about high carbon steel.
-
-
Carbon Fiber would be sweet an unnecessary

Alienware is like Sabb autos when it comes to notebook hinges. You look at how everyone else is building theirs and still have no idea why you should change your style.
the last time that I saw hinges like this was on my 10yr old compaq
What would you like to see in the next M11x?
