I've just got a refurb R1 with 3 years warranty through a Dell Partner yadayada but I needed to know if having the AlienFX morphing/changing frequently will damage the LEDs at all. Common sense says it should be fine, but again, I just wanted to be sure.
    Cheers

Shouldnt cause a problem. And if it does, you have 3 years of warranty, by the time 3 years is up im sure your laptop will be way too old to play any new games.

And I heard somewhere that the LED's were meant to last five years with continuous use. Either way, you got a three year warranty so not much to worry about.

Ah, so that's fine then and warranty is just last resort, I don't like the hassle of it >.< Cheers for the help.

Hmmmm, well the Dell contractors here are pretty good from what I've heard, so it should be ok. Anyway as for the breaking, the screen does still stay attached and usable, doesn't it? Because I'm going away with the laptop for a few weeks soon and don't want it to be completely FUBAR and out of action >.<

The components to the laptop will still be operable. I'm not sure about the display being in tact and working however as I'm going to get mine in August.

Your first concerns should be the faulty hinges, that's a dreaded nightmare for nearly all M11X owners.

Your second concern should be someone stealing the beauty :p (Looks around with a suspicious face)

The hinges are the drawback I've known about and can live with, it's the reason I got the extra warranty. Still, I'll probably get an R3 or an m14/15x to go along with it come January.

You will be defeated by the magical Kensington lock ;)

Good point. But my m11x will never leave my side, I bought a tacky neoprene case with a strap :p

Thats correct, a LED have about 50k hours of lifespan. Thats longer that the laptop will last.

If you do not fold the laptop until you need to move it, the hindges will last longer...
To prevent dust from coming on the laptop when the lid is open, just cover it with a cloth.

That's only 5 YEARS of constant use xD
and that's the problem, I'll be moving it an awful lot. Hopefully it'll break when I'm home so I can get it fixed within 2 days or so >.>

Hopefully it won't break at all. I have a friend with an M11X i7 and he has yet to endure the painful process of faulty hinges, and he carries it around quite a bit as well.

And yeah, no big deal, just five years... :p

Whenever you use the laptop, just put a cloth over it, therefore you will never see the BoD's you might get, the faulty hinges, the dust, heck, why not just not use it at all and keep it closed up all the time?

Joking aside, Don't expect faulty hinges. The odds are against you, but if everyone had faulty hinges, Dell would have admitted to this issue and would have started shipping these machines with new hinges sooner.

I'm hoping mine will be OK but now I've said that, it's bound to die.

Hey, the laptop I'm using now is that old :p I kinda sold my other laptop to fund the m11x
BoD's? and it's going to be driving my dual monitors so it'll be closed half the time xD

Hmmmm, But Dell refused to admit their computers liked to burst into flame many moons ago when they all had the dodgy batteries, so you never know >.<

LEDs have the longest lifespan of any lightsource (as far as I know.)

Light-emitting diode - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In short, you shouldn't run into any issues.

Hmmmm that's always good. I was just scared having the laptop as a disco all the time would make them die >.>
Also, you forgot to add the sun ;) It's been around for billions of years and it has a few left yet :p
