Since the alienware is having a sale now and a basic model with only ram upgrade to 4gb cost 600$, Im thinking buying it for a move around laptop. Is the basic model good enough or is it too underpowered? And how does overclock work on the cpu?

It's very good, you can overclock to 1.7mhz fairly easily and if you're okay voiding your warranty and comfortable taking it apart and using a soldering tool you can pinmod it. But simple bios overclock should be plenty fine.

Also I recommend getting it refurbed to save even more money, there's a 20% coupon going on right now.
