Hey, I keep getting this error like once or twice a day now on my m11x r2. Last time it happened I installed something and the computer starts lagging a bit and I get the error. Then I have to manually restart the computer. It also happens a lot after I play games. Mostly random. It also happens when I try to adjust my audio for example, and I press the audio thing in the right corner, then it just says that error. And I see the computer working like crazy but not possible to do anything.

What can I do to find out what is causing this?

maybe reinstall the audio drivers? also, the factory image shipped with my r2 had poorly installed wlan drivers... it would cause explorer.exe crashes, usually when opening control panel.

My Sony did this, brougt it in for warranty repair... They told me it was the hard drive going out. Told me they replaced it. At any rate it didn't do that since.

Thanks guys. After installing new audio drivers and doing all kind of stuff the Explorer would still crash. So I changed to a bigger Harddrive I had and reinstalled windows 7. Seems to be fine now! :D

Great, it is hard to find out what is causing those faults. You could probably demand a new hard-drive from dell if that seems to be the problem.

When my hinges was broken on the R1, they came the next day and fixed it. And that is also in Norway. :-D

Just got the windows explorer has stopped working error as I was surfing the web, this is after I changed HDD and reinstalled windows 7. I also tried changing drivers and make sure everything is up to date, still get the error maybe once a day. Happens mostly when I am going to adjust the volume in the right corner of the screen, or just clicking the bar. Once I press it the mouse pointer starts working and I cant click on he start menu or on any of the icons on the bar below as windows explorer stops working, and it doesn't work to restart it.

The error happened randomly too, had this site open actually, not sure what is going on.

Just a little update: I keep getting this error a lot now, and everytime it happens I press fn + f4/f5 (brightness) and the error goes away and windows returns. I also noticed sometimes when i leave the laptop on for some minutes and come back, windows feels unresponsive for 2 seconds when clicking the volume icon in the right corner or anywhere on the bar.

Try this and let me know if the problem occurs and try solution...

    Restart comp.
Once booted click Start and go to Control Panel
    Then click Hardware and Sound
now at this point you should get a expolorer.exe has crashed if it was the same problem as I was having...
If this is the case you need a specific KB article security update.. You can try running the troubleshooting and get it to suggest an update to install that will link you to a microsoft site for the update but if you are not getting that then I can try finding it and I will edit this post with the link if I find it...

If you do not have the problem described above you can also try reinstalling the Realtek HD audio drivers because that seems to me where the issue is occuring..

    *EDIT*

Sorry for late reply but this is the KB article that fixes "not responding" error with explorer.exe in control panel...

This actually worked! :O So the audio drivers were to blame, huh. I reinstalled the drivers, hadn't had the error all day. Thanks!
