You could, but you would lose performance, especially in sequential transfers. Now, SSD is a different story.

I have a ssd in my m17x, any difference there except to save space?

There really aren't any benefits. An SD card has seek times that are faster than a mechanical hard drive, but slower raw transfer rates. That means that an SD card is better than a mechanical hard drive for many small files. That is the exact opposite of a page file (which is one single large file).
The absolute best case is to always have enough physical RAM so that you never use the page file. If you must page, the best case is going to be an SSD drive, then a mechanical hard drive, then an SD card. But once you page, you WILL notice your computer slowing down considerably. Even the fastest SSD's are slower than physical RAM by a factor of 10x to 15x. -
Thank you for the Information, I guess I will use my extra SD cards for storage

If so, which model and was it simply and plug and play for the bios and OS?
Thanks. -
Will the wireless network card work if it was moved to the wwan slot ? If so, can a mini pci-e ssd drive work in the wireless card slot instead ?
Just trying to get more built in storage and a secure safe place to put some files and stuff.
Thanks. -
I just recieved my m11x laptop and am very curious about using the extra PCIe slot for something. I might try and see if a wireless network card will work in that slot. If I do I will let you guys know.

Interesting reading this topic! I looked at my WWAN slot while upgrading my hard disk and immediately thought of Aughra from the Dark Crystal movie-
"What's it for? Hm?? Is that what you wanna know? Is that it, Gelfling? You don't know?" lol or Barry Burton from Resident Evil, "What IS this?"
I'd love to use mine for something. Uh, not to beat a dead topic or anything but I just had to comment. -

Its been like 8 months since this thread was bumped, anyone make any progress on something in the wwan slot?
I want to put a TV tuner into mine, but dont want to spend the 80$ without knowing if it will even work...
I may put my mini pci wlan card in there later this week to see if it works, if it does then there may be hope.
