Seeing what great praises The Witcher 2 has gotten, I decided to pick up the first game and beat it before diving into the sequel. However, I can't seem to find the right settings to play the game smoothly (constant 30+ FPS at least). There will be moments when my FPS will drop from 60 to the low 20s. I've tried lowering the resolution and turning the shadows to low, but the problem with inconsistent FPS still persists. I suppose I could just turn everything to low and call it a day, but if I could, I'd like to have the best of both worlds: aesthetics and performance.
Does anyone have a good batch of recommended settings I may use to make my experience with the game more enjoyable? Thank you!

Are u ocing your gpu? I was getting the same problem and by running stock gpu it runs very smooth

i tried the game on stock and it still was giving me unstable fps.

My GPU is not overclocked. So I suppose this is a somewhat common problem for M11x users?
Is there a specific setting I can turn down to boost FPS? I know with most games, it'd be the shading option, which I've done but to no avail. I'm currently on limited battery so I'm hesitant to launch the game and do tests at the moment. If anyone can find out for me for the time being, that'd be great! -
Hmm did you white list it so the Nvidia gpu is on?
The 1st game runs super smooth for me on maxed settings on my m11x r2 mild overclocked. I don't see 20s
Cant say the same for the 2nd one which i haven't tried on mine yet but not planing too play that game on my m11x. Ony desktop. -
Yup, the game is white-listed (the djinni!.exe and witcher.exe). I don't think I'd be getting 60 FPS at all, even sporadically, if it wasn't. But thanks for your suggestion; at least we have that covered.
I'm going to test out the settings now and hopefully I'll find something of use. -
Sorry to hijack this thread. I bought the witcher 1 a few months ago. and finally got around to playing it a few weeks ago. When i first ran the game. it said minimal requirements not read. but once i whitelisted it ran beautifully on medium settings. Then occasionally it would freeze when i was running completely randomly. So i updated the new nvidia drivers and again it ran very smoothly and everything. I took a break for a few days, and when i loaded the game back up. suddenly there are these weird red dots on the screen. They never appear during cutscenes, or even during dialogue, only during gameplay. they never go away either. I'm worried its artificats from the gpu overheating. the weird part is it wont go away even when i lower all the settings. I don't know what it is. the game seems to play fine, but the red dots makes me worried. anyone else have problems like this?

My character is drunk? are u sure cuz i've been fighting and running around for a while.
I'm gonna double check and let you know
**edit**
oh. im being poisoned by taking too many potions. i had no idea there was such a thing. well at least its good to know its part of the game. thanks -
All of my settings are to maximum except AA. I've set it to 2 instead of 4.
With Fraps, I am getting FPS average of 32-ish.
However, sometimes it goes down to 20 in some places such as the swamp.
Overall, it is very playable ! ! ! I am now in Act III.
