Out of curiosity, which would you prefer if both options existed ?
- M11X-R3 @ 11.6"
- M13X-R1 @ 13.3" (slightly more powerful than the M11X-R3)
The M13X would obviously suffer a tad bit via battery (I'm guessing 30-45 mins?).
Personally, I'd much prefer a 13.3", which would directly compete with the MacBookPro (13.3") and Envy 14 line.
I'd love the screen size increase primarily for gaming, electronic music composition and DJ'ing. This would be my dream laptop.
I pray this comes to life and if it does, that we're offered a +$ screen quality upgrade ...kind of like the option offered with Envy's Radiance.
What about you guys?
1. Which do you prefer?
2. Would you upgrade to a radiance-type screen for more $ if offered?

In the 13" market they'd have to do something much better with video cards and more revisions to compete in the market.
I like the M11x because of it's smaller then 13" size. I might like a 13" version though. I'd have to see it. -
The m13x would be a dream machine.
I would jump on that if it has a bit stronger GPU than the m11x and has non-ULV CPU's. With some good screen options as well. -
If both had the same internals , I'd take the 11" every time. Since Alienware has a tendency to make heavy as hell computers, the 13" laptop will end up weighing 6 lbs...and have a minimal performance increase over the 11" laptop.
-
I would much rather have an m13x if it had a stronger CPU and possibly an optical drive. IMO, less battery life is not really an issue since 5+ hours on the m11x is already way overkill.
-
Honestly I was looking forward to a possible m13x, but nah, as long as they update the m11x it will be great. They could expand the current screen of the m11x to like a 12.1, but that is unlikely. It will still be a nice machine though, perhaps they will slim down the m15x like they did with the m17x.
-
i dont know how to vote on this one but i can say i think if they could possibly do the 13" on the same rez (no performance hit) and not make the case much bigger (the screen would only need to be about 1" taller and 1.5" wider) id want a M13x much more than the M11x. seing as how the M11x is so close to the 13" size anyway, i think the added screen space would be welcome.
imo 13" is the perfect ballance between portability and usability. 15" laptops just feel unnessarly big after owning a few 11" laptops but trying to do some things on a 11" screen for a extended span of time can be bothersome to some people.
i really think having a 13" would be awesome! -
-
Considering that a m11x with a decent i7 cpu costs more than a m15x, I doubt i'd buy a m13x since the price would probably not be worth it.
However, if the price would be decent then i'd definitly prefer a m13x over a m11x. -
Personally Id stick with the m11x series over the m13x if it existed. I LOVE this platform! The only things I would love to see in the r3 is a ULV quad core and 1600x900 screen. If those options were present on the r3 I would sell 2/3 of my computers to get it the second it was offered. Hopefully 2012 will be the year this happens, although I doubt the 1600x900 screen would ever make its way into the m11x (although it would be an AWESOME option).
-
No, not really. The M11x was built to suit a certain standard and if you want something else then I guess you should go with that. I do wish the processor had a bit more kick to it, though.
-
only if the m13 is under 5lbs and over 5 hours battery life
-
A big reason why the Alienware M11x performs as well as it does in gaming is because of the relatively low-res 1366x768 screen. Going up to 1600x900 screen would mean ~40% increase in pixels, which means ~40% decrease in framerates in most games.
I, for one, would not be willing to make that tradeoff for a higher res screen. -
Since this is all speculation, I can assume that going from M11x --> M13x means you sacrifice portability (size, weight, battery life) for performance (faster CPU, GPU). There are also a few wild-cards in there as well (screen resolution, screen quality, connectivity options, price) that may influence the decision.
So, it's hard to say. A larger screen would be nice. But I need to see exactly how much I need to sacrifice (size, weight, battery life, price) in order to get that larger screen. -

Once ivy branch comes along I might open my wallet for a quad core ulv m13x with gb lan, an oled screen, an optical drive and an appropriate gpu with 4+ hours on battery.
But if the hype is to be believed, the m11x would also be packing a quad core... -

Crucial to a 13.3" is that it should still have the same resolution. Or a small increment (1440x900 at the most) since:
1) games will suffer;
2) and text will become illegible.
I don't know why the ridiculously high option of 1600x??? exists for the 13.1" VAIO Z. -

But you know... that's just what I heard... -
Because some of use like higher resolutions and can read text on it. I applaud sony for putting that high of a res screen in p and other ultraportable models and I wish other manufacturers followed suit.

Besides, the sandy bridge m11x r3 is coming out next month. -
No, but seriously, I tend to take a skeptical view when it comes to rumors of upcoming releases. I've chased technology rumors before; they end up taking you deep down into the rabbit hole, and end in disappointment and impatience. I'll believe it when I see it, or when Alienware / Dell make an official announcement as to its availability (rather than hearsay from an Alienware forum moderator). -
I theorise that where there a m13x, the specs would be like an i7 660LM with a 445m GT or a 555m GT. 16x9:1440x810 screen with a 1600x900 option.

Is there going to be an Alienware m11x r3 this year?
-
The circumstantial evidence points to a fixed hinge, support for Verizon 4G LTE wireless internet, and a release date in March 2011. Any other "features" beyond that (like Sandy Bridge CPU, etc) are all speculation from forum users, with no evidence (hard or circumstantial) to support that speculation.
So the answer is: The Alienware 11x R3 probably exists, and will probably coming out in 2011. However, until we hear an official announcement from Alienware / Dell, it is not an absolute "yes". -
I found this on another forum:
Dell Alienware M11x Laptop: Intel Core i5 520UM (1.066 GHz) CPU, 8GB DDR3, 11.6" (1366x768) WLED LCD w/ Webcam, 320GB HD, WiFi N, 1GB GeForce GT 335M, Windows 7 $699 + Free shippin - Slickdeals.net
Big price drop for a core i5. Looks like a R3 can be coming soon! -
