NOW!!
Just kidding, obviously. Congratulations and let us know your opinion! -
Wow, I do not believe it but the power plug does not actually fit into the AC adapter.
Also the AC adapter is rather chunky and not thin like the Alienware 17x, and another new Dell Vostro I have. This is the M11x AC adapter:
-
Ya, they should've sent you the thin adapter to be honest. Send them a pic of that, they'll replace it i'm sure.
-
That's a 90W adapter. Looks like it includes the same cable from the R2 adapter but is a different adapter design. Try another clover type cable.
-
just call alienware support they will overnight you the right plug. i called them last night to get screws for the bottom cover of the R2 i just got from the outlet and they were all over it. My unit was perfect except that i guess they dont give there techs the right size screwdrivers.
-
Just on the phone to Alienware support and they confirmed that the adapter is correct, but the clover cable is wrong. I already found a standard clover that fits fine. So I guess all is good.
Now on hold to another customer support agent. In the meantime here is an image of the M11x next to my M17x.
-
is alienware support US-based or India-based? After using the US-based support for my Dell latitude (as opposed to India-based for my older Inspiron), I don't think I can go back lol.
-
i have the R2 and I have the thin power supply. I would call them and complain. At least does the end light up?
-
They will ship me a new cable. In the meantime I plugged a cable in that actually fits. Just charging the battery to full capacity (currently at 97%). Then I was going to run an MKV file on loop off the hard-disk and monitor the batter-life? Or, should I run some tests? Either way, let me know -
Can you run WPrime 32M and 1024M please?
-
Also some more images. Sorry for the quality
-
Will you be able to tell if your m11xR3 supports Sata 3? The thing is no one knows for sure if the new m11xR3 is able to support the new Sata 3(6GB mbps) capabilities. Some say that the specs of the MOBO should support it, but no one can confirm for sure at this time.
-
With wPrime, right click and run as admin.
Gosh, I'm excited. Are you excited. -
-
Re: m11xR3 supports Sata 3
Mobilezila, not sure how I could check that. Any suggestions? -
Wow...I'm so jealous. Mine is still in production
-
-
My M11xR1 500GB HDD has an SATA/300. (SATA-2)
If you see SATA/600 (SATA-3) then you've got some serious HDD I/O going on.
I note you have a Seagate 500GB Momentus XT Solid State Hybrid Drive listed. It's SATA-2(3GB). -
-
-
Maybe it won't show until you actually have a SATA3 HDD installed?
Wonder if CrystalDiskInfo v3.10.0 only shows you the SATA specs of the currently installed HDD and not what the MOBO actually supports. -
That's similar wPrime performance compared to a well overclocked R2.
http://forum.notebookreview.com/7161458-post805.html
Based on csufy's testing, you would probably need to overclock a Core i7-640UM to a bus speed of about 175 MHz to keep up with an out of the box R3. Thanks for sharing.
DavyGT: During long term tests, Sandy Bridge is designed to throttle back the amount of turbo boost and slow down a little so that's probably what happened during the 1024M test. -
-
If using ThrottleStop, he should be able to see the CPU power consumption drop about 30 seconds into a longer benchmark test like wPrime 1024M and the amount of turbo boost and multiplier will drop right along with it. That's how Intel has designed Turbo Boost 2.0 that Sandy Bridge uses.
-
Congrats! u lucky champ.... please do some game related benchmark, crysis ?
-
That brings up a question I have had....
...so we WILL be able to use throttlestop with the R3? -
Congrats Redback911 looks fab. Mine is hopefully arriving this week, pending dam royal wedding bank holidays argh!!! I have same part number power cord and power supply as your order. I wonder if it was a one off mistake or the Chinese are going to send them all out with the wrong cable!!
Just out of curiosity on the American dell site under accessories you can get the slim line power supply. However you cant order it on Uk website when buying m11x r3? Is this one below the same as the US as I will probably get it if there is a significant difference in size and weight to the one that gets shipped?

@Uncle - For Sandy Bridge and Game play, since you need consistent performance rather than the "up down" or "yo yo" effect of Level 2 turbo and Level 1, would it be better for the CPU sensor to lower the TDP threshold on level 2 and only allow level 1 to engage?
My thinking...
You got a bclk of 100 x 12 stock. Level 2 turbo kicks it up to 25, then backs down after 30 seconds but the cpu is now hot so you get very little turbo, say 15, then it senses it has cooled so back up to 24, now back down to 15 or 16. Yo Yo. Why not just have it at 20 all the time rather than Yo Yo?
What is your thoughts on this? My preference, ALWAYS MY PREFERENCE is to have consistent performance for gaming. -
EDIT
Hmm, I have a few Steam games like Shogun 2 and Civ 5. -
I think CrystalDiskInfo only reports the HDD speed and type of the Disk being viewed.
I don't think CrystalDiskInfo shows the bus/controller speed.
I had a quick look around and can't seem to find anything that does it.
I know if you put a HDD into a notebook and it's faster than the controller can handle, it does note the maximum speed of the HDD and the current speed of the controller. This can be seen using HDTune. -
Any word on fan behavior? Silent when doing normal tasks? Movie watching? I am just curious how this revision behaves since R1 & R2 had a bit of complaints initially.
-
Been waiting for the box since 830AM its now 130PM
i might fall asleep! ;(
-
Judging by the books (networking) you have on your shelf, there are other things than games. Good to see.
One could always bang out a 3DMark06 run to appease the punters.
Isn't it fun being the first and being mob benchmarked. -
Congrates RedBack911. I know the list of to do for you is big and growing I don't want to add more
I just noticed my US order has a different part number for adapter
331-2219 Alienware M11x 90W A/C Adapter
why did they give you thick brick, at least I am expecting a slim one. For the moment I can only sigh in desperation.....Oh!!! I need it in my hands badly and it is still in production -
come one fed ex guy! lol
-
Turbo boost is just an algorithm to perform a (usually short duration) task as efficiently as possible. If under consistent CPU load, the CPU should stabilize on a certain frequency (and number of cores), while not exceeding TDP/TDC limits. I only imagine very small fluctuations while gaming. -
-
-
-
Mine just shipped, hopefully next week I'll have my grubby mitts all over it
-
Reback, need more info pls like the fan and battery life with just wifi on and web browsing?
Is the fan quiet and idle while surfing only? Because we had this problem with the r1 where when idle or just surfing the fan will just turn on in full power blasting like it has a mind of its own. -
i would like to know how overclockable your gpu is. and what fps you get at 1080p in eve online. or maybe left 4 dead 2.
-
oh another thing red, is the power supply plug lights up blue like the one from r2?
-
-
-
Just ran 3Dmark: Result
-
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
Great Score!
@Red - 3dmark score, is that stock or OC gpu? Also is the GPU supposed to show the intel hd one or the nvidia 540?
I don't really care for optimus but god knows Im about to be forced to deal with it.. ugh... (think positive Steven, think positive Steven) -
I think with Optimus it always lists the Intel graphics on the 3dmark score even though the benchmark uses Nvidia. I know it has for me when I ran 3dmark.
Yay my M11x R3 Arrived
