Hope the day finds you and your M11x-s well, friends. I have a question to ask.

I really admire the cooling on the M11x - since I live in a really hot climate and the highest CPU / GPU temps under load that I've seen were around 57'-58', which is a spectacular result.

But then I noticed that the fan is working virtually non-stop! The situation is as follows: the unit starts at 40' and climbs up to 48'-50' very fast - regardless of its state - idle, web-surfing, writing, etc. As soon as the temps pass the 47' mark the fan kicks in, bringing it down to 43' quickly. After this - it rapidly climbs up again till it reaches 48'-50' - rinse and repeat - all the time.

Technically, I have nothing to complain about - the laptop stays at 43'-44' and does not overheat at all. Yet the constant fan sound is a bit irritating - so I am curious if your laptops act the same?

Does your fan turn on every 30 seconds or so, does it work for another 30 seconds and then turns off for 30 seconds more?

Thank you in advance for any input you may kindly offer.

When I am just normally surfing on the net or typing an essay, I think it takes around 15+ minutes until the fan kicks in due to increase in the temperature. The temperature will rapidly go down and the fan goes silent again.
I rarely hear fan spinning nowadays when just surfing on the net, probably the weather is a bit colder.

Basically all m11x r2 repeats this kind of cooling pattern.
However, I noticed that even when just surfing on the net but using a lot of memory RAM (e.g. web games, NOT flash games), the temperature will rise rapidly. The fan will kick in every 4~8 minutes, which is really annoying.

However, I am glad that this doesn't bother me in lectures as I never heard the sound of my fan kicking in, whew.
It would have been a disaster if the sound of the fan kicking in was a lot louder !

My m11x R2, while doing nothing, is always around 40-60°C, well, sometimes is on more than 4-5 hours...

While gaming is around 70-85°C, all that in hot days and in a plain desk, if I use one of those things to lift the laptop a little that have a fan, I can get almost 7-10°C less in all settings....

Thanks a lot for the information, everybody. I have an R1, (A05) and it seems that my temperatures are even better than I thought.

But then - since your machines are generally idling at a higher temperature than mine - how do you cope with the sound of the fan? The point is, that I suspect that my fan kicks in far earlier and more often than your fans do. Might it be the case?

Yes - this is exactly what I would like to achieve. Not that the m11x fan was too loud - it is not, yet it is definitely louder than the one on my Vaio and, since it spins most of the time, it is getting on my nerves a bit.
