Im sorry to ask such a stupid question. But does the M11x R3 come with alien respawn or dell data safe? I know the programs are suposed to be the same or atleast do the same but which one is installed? Reason why Im asking is I deploy to afganhistan in less then a months and should recieve my M11x in a weeks or so and want to be able to have a way to restore it without the need for internet incase a HDD fail.

basically, it's the same thing. Alienrespawn is more or less re-skinned dell datasafe. You'll see same interface with different appearance like you would when changing theme on windows. You'll also be able to restore back to factory settings from recovery media you created using those apps. No need to connect to internet.. no need to clone either.it will reformat your HDD back to its factory state.

Ok so I can make a recovery USB just like I did for my M15x. So when I upgrade the hard drive or it totally fails on me then. Good to know. The reason I ask is cause the last time I had data safe was on my XPS 10 in her a few years back and all data safe would do is back up locally like windows backup and after a hard drive fail while I was deployed to Iraq I was stuck without a laptop til R&R.

Yes you can make a USB boot stick, and an FYI however the latest versions of respawn seem to require the HDD to be the same size or larger. I know this has caused issues for some folks.

I have not found that the respawn requires the HDD to be the same size or larger on my R2. Maybe my alienrespawn has not upgrade to the lastest version~~~

By the way, I remeber the USB stick should be larger than 4.37 GB or 4.7 GB. Therefore, 8GB USB stick will be a great choice.

My r1 came with Dell Data Safe. My r3 came with AlienRespawn. They are the same.
