The gpu is soldered to the motherboard therefore they have to replace the whole mb.

You'll be getting a different CPU (same type though) since that's Also soldered in.

The come in, put down a mat, disassemble the laptop, add now motherboard (inc CPU, GPU etc..), reassemble, test.

And a cuppa and some chat for good measure.

I just had my m17x motherboard replaced. The guy they sent was nice but didn't know a thing about alienware laptops. He didn't know how to get the cover off the bottom. He took the laptop apart and when he took the keyboard off he put it on the laptop screen. Once he replaced it he tested it and it work but now some of the keys on the keyboard didn't work. So that had to be replaced a week later. He didn't use a mat when disassembling it either, which I thought was interesting. Also I had extra screws laying around when he was done.

So pros was that he was nice. He also was fast once he got it open and I didn't have to wait long for the keyboard repair.

I just wish dell would send guys that knew something about alienware laptops. Basically its a 50-50 chance on what you are going to get.

Its not always a good thing though. I see your able to pull off a 166 oc with your i5. Might not be so lucky with your new cpu.
