One question to rule them all.....:
Did you want a small laptop or a BIG laptop?
Otherwise I cant see how you are comparing the two. I could do the same by comparing a desktop with a generator tied to the back against a laptop....

I think the M11X is still better. Longer battery by x3, portable and has next-day tech warranty, which makes AW laptops the least downtime laptops on the market. HP has the worst fail rate out of all laptops, so if you don't mind dealing with box-warranty, then go ahead :p

Laptop seems like a good buy if you don't mind the bloatware HP packs in there. Performance wise it seems even better than the AW although I do recommend upgrading the hard drive if you do purchase the HP one. If it wasn't for these helpful forums and the clean, non bloated laptop, simple to use (at least for me) and next day tech warranty as stated above, I would go with this one. Definitely seems like a good buy especially for gaming and this isn't a HUGE laptop, only weighting at about 6 pounds?

Pretty darn close, but like everyone else already said, you buy an M11x because its small, had great battery, and its a freakin' Alienware/Dellienware which entitles you to some of the best customer service in the consumer electronics industry.

I own an old HP Mini that I bought on contract through Verizon a few years back... and lemme tell ya... HP stuffs their laptops to the brim with crap you don't need.

and voodoo is right... I got so frustrated on the phone trying to get tech support for my HP notebook because all their tech support is based in india! They all read from a script and if you deviate from that script in any way they are just completely lost. I remember trying to get on of the tech's to try and fix a problem I was having with the integrated graphics and he obviously didn't have a clue how this laptop was built.

Call Alienware and at least they know *something* ... I won't say they're all super geniuses over there, but Carlos who I talked to seemed to understand my driver problem and spoke as if he was actually a computer guy... as in... someone who wasn't just reading from a script. We talked back and forth about the driver issue, and he knew what I was talking about. This is something that never happened with HP. With HP's tech support you basically need to throw a tantrum enough times to get escalated to a higher level tech problem, and the HP techs have all sorts of strategies to "get rid of you" ... they'll downright tell you your problem can't be fixed, or the tried and true "Just reinstall windows" solution that tech support agents love to throw around mindlessly.

Call me a fanboy, but I'll never buy an HP again. You think Dell is bad... you've never owned an HP and tried to get tech support with it. It's that bad.

My only question is how do the two graphics cards compare to each other?

Almost Identical. Technically the ATI has a small edge, but in 3dMark06 it only pulls out an average of 10 points more

Is the Alienware M11x right for you? Here's a quick test:

Ask yourself what you want out of a laptop. If the word "portable" isn't one of the first words out of your mouth, don't buy an Alienware M11x.
