    Hi All,

I received my m11x two days ago. The hinges seem fine, no visual misalignment, but there is a very slight creaking sound when I open the screen (or maybe I've become super sensitive to every little sound). The keyboard is wavy and, well, honestly, it looks ugly. There's no problem typing on it, but cosmetically it looks bad. Oh, and the keys touch the screen all the way from the number keys, 1,2,3,4 to ASD

Slight hinge sound + wavy keyboard = return?

I'm not sure what to do.

One more thing: my mom, my sister, and I went in on 3X install disc of Microsoft Office 2010. My mom put it on her desktop, my sister on her laptop, and I've been waiting for the m11x to arrive to put it on there.

Now, I'm afraid if the hinges go or if I have to return it to Dell for a replacement, what happens to my copy of Office? Do they give me another copy? Do they let me keep the hard drive?

Any one have experience with this?

Sorry for the rambling, but I don't know what to think about this machine any more.

    Thanks

Yeah both of those are normal. My hinge started squeaking after about a month, and just about everyone has the wavy keyboard (do a search for proof--that fact about the keyboard has been covered a million times now :) ).

    Thanks for the quick replies!

Yes, I've been reading about the keyboards. I don't like how it looks, but it is something that I can live with. I think I'm most worried about having to return the machine and what would happen to my software if I did.

@ ACHlLLES: it's not that I'm looking for perfection, but just my money's worth.

I really like the m11x and don't want to part with it at all.

I definitely share that sentiment. I absolutely hated the fact that it waved up for probably the first month I owned it, but eventually I forgot about it and then realized it didn't affect my typing. When you first get something, especially something costly, any flaw seems extremely blatant, but over time that goes away and the reality of the situation becomes apparent, I've found.

Thanks corwinicre. That "flaw" is the first thing I do notice when I look at the machine, but then my eyes move to the wonderfully black casing and the exquisite lines and lights, and I can't think of parting with the m11x! I'm going to keep typing and gaming away and beseech the gods to keep my hinges together.

    So say we all!

No problem with office... worst case is having to submit proof of ownership when migrating to another system. At least thats what I did. They asked for pictures!

Cool, thanks for the info. I'm going to do the install and take pictures to document the whole process.

Whoops I meant they asked for pics for POP (proof of purchase) for the office license. My lic was a student/teacher version for 3systems.
