i imagine you have to change the resolution in-game. that's how most (all?) games played in windows work, anyway.

If you have the 1.13 patch, you should be able to use higher resolution. If you have 1.12 and below, try the d2multires patch.

I actually don't like running in a window (I find the surrounding desktop breaks the ambiance), so I have an XP vm running inside Workstation 7.1 and play full screen there. It's not noticeable at all and looks great (well as great as it looked back in 2000...) You can freely download vmware Server and give it a try.

Does Diablo 2 even support widescreen? It was made before widescreen hit popularity.

You're putting a 4:3 ratio game into a 16:9 ratio screen....of course it's not gonna get any bigger. You can't fit a square into a rectangle....you can only make it as tall as the rectangle, you'll still have the empty bits on the sides.

It's like the opposite of watching a widescreen movie on a non-widescreen TV. They shrink the image so you can fit the extra bits on the side onto the screen.(Not chopping off the top/bottom)

Actually, this is not quite true since patch 1.13c:

( Diablo II Patch 1.13c Released - Voodoo Extreme)

You can indeed fit the "square into the rectangle"...

When i put the computer in 800x600 and and fullscreen instead of centering it it fills the whole screen fine
