OK have had real problems with my bloody graphics card.

Yes I can set bios to discrete so lets just remove this as an option cos well I need long battery life for work (hense the whole reason for the hybrid graphics)

So I have now started (again from scratch) new install - nothing but the OS and the nvidia (latest dell drivers for video card from dell site) and I can't get the bloody system to swap reliably - yes sometimes on reboot it works sometimes it does not. Running win 7 Ultimate 64 bit - latest dell drivers (from dell site for the R1 M11x no have not downloaded wrong drivers).

This was my original complaint thought a clean reinstall with nothing but the OS and an installation of the Nvidia drivers would fix this but guess what - hopeless can't get the darn thing to work regularly - yes it will work - on occasion and other times I just get bloody driver errors requiring a reboot which if I'm lucky will fix it. Sorry but really getting pissed now with the whole switching thing am I expecting to much for it to actually work!!!!!

it can be the nvidia-driver, try other versions and check the results.

Exactly what "driver errors requiring a reboot" come up? I've never seen any such message in the year and a half that I've had a notebook with Intel Hybrid Power graphics.

Many times I have to go into bios to change graphic settings because the switchable graphics don't work 100% of the time so I feel for you. Forget it on my 17", the intel graphics really stink and I always have to go into bios to fix that one.

It sounds like you are missing a driver, or don't have a driver installed properly. I would make sure that you have the latest nVidia drivers, Intel drivers, and Alienware On-screen display. The OSD can be useful to see visual feedback of the Fn-keys that you press.
