I had changed the sound from hdmi to the m11xr3 speakers now I have a monitor with speakers built in and want to change my sound to default to hdmi again.
Does anyone remember what program I use to do that? I can't find hdmi as an option under the sound mixer or in control panel...
The only option I have for playback devices are the realtek high def audio... plugging in the hdmi doesn't give me more optoins.
Everytime I try to open the realtek hd audio manager nothing happens as well... hope the adjustment isn't in there..
Realtek driver r263 didn't do much , it actually disabled my headphone jacks.
Hdmi driver r261 wouldn't intsall over r263. Still can't figure this out.

If you right click on your "speaker" in the system tray and then click on devices or something like that, you should see an option for whatever display you're using. You need to set that display as the default and it should output through HDMI. Your m11x has to be outputting currently to that monitor via HDMI for that display to appear in your output devices.

If you can´t get the option like sasquatchimo said, do a hard reset on your TV/Monitor... that worked for me...

Well, I did this too with my TV and it worked. So I recommend to it the way sasquatchimo said.
Anyways, maybe by hard reseting your Monitor will make your sound "appear" (I have never used this method)

It has my 28" syncmaster showing up as not plugged in (hidden devices) but not my 37 at all, not sure why a cold boot would help. I assume you mean just to pull the power cord to both monitors. I tried this on the 37w3 westinghouse and it still doesn't even show up as a unplugged device where as my syncmaster and my headphones do.

Downloading the new gt540m driver released june 2011 to see if it makes a diff to my "HD" sound.

Unplugged power to both monitors for a minute and installed the new driver nothing is working :(

If you can see you monitor under "Playback device", set it as the default audio device. You laptop will switch back to internal speakers when you unplug it. And tick "Show unplugged devices", your screen should appear. Otherwise, good luck.

    Hope that helps.

I cannot do this because the monitor shows up only under disconnected.
To drive me even crazier is the hdmi audio detects my cousins samsung but neither my westinghouse nor my viewsonic!

And this is while you're currently using the monitor, meaning it's connected to the laptop and is on and functioning? Even if it's disconnected, can you adjust the properties for it?

If you aren't seeing it showing up as an audio device even when the monitor is powered on and in-use, try right-clicking on the desktop, selecting on NVIDIA Control Panel, then on "set up multiple displays" and see if your monitor is listed there. If it isn't, I don't even know what to think.

Also, is there only 1 HDMI input in the back of the monitor? If there is another HDMI input, try plugging into that one.

Yes it shows up under nvidia multiple displays but when i click on setup digital audio it doesn't show up there. This is true for both 28 and 37 , both only have one hdmi in.

Sorry by work i meant it would detect my samsung and try to use the sound from a monitor that doesn't have sound. Now that I intsalled new drivers it's doing that but it's still not detecting the 28 and 37 which both do actually have sound/speakers.
