Hi folks, my name is Will and... I'm a possible Alienware m11x owner lol. I currently work at Best Buy (cool job if you like retail, great discounts) and we randomly got sent some Alienware m11x computers with the Core 2 Duo, 4gb RAM, and GT335m. They are what we call EoL (end of lifecycle), which basically means they are old and we get charged money to keep them every month we don't sell them. This gives me, as an employee, the opportunity to purchase the laptop for (cost to us) - (reserve cost per month). With this laptop, our cost is $770.00, and the reserve cost is $530.00. Therefore, I can buy this Alienware m11x for $240.00 new out of the box.

Now, I've been told to stay away from Alienware ever since they got purchased by Dell and, essentially, became simply overpriced Dells. But really, I don't care who made the damn thing, it's cool/small/portable/gaming-capable and I can get it new for just over $250.00 with tax lol. I have concerns though, because I don't know jack about Alienware laptops, much less any common issues/recalls/problems associate with this model.

So I reach out to the community, as a future active forum member, to give me any information or upgrades I need to consider before purchasing the laptop in question. I'm pretty excited about it, it'll be nice to play League of Legends on the go. But I don't want to buy a steaming pile of a computer if that is the case lol.

Thank you, and I hope this isn't tl;dr material :p

Read up on the hinge issues.
I believe the first sticky on the M11X forum states that Dell will be fixing the hinges (good news)
4GB of memory is a must for gaming (Which you already have)
You will have a R1 if you purchase that specific laptop. Its a core2duo which means its not a powerful processor but will do for light tasks and gaming but don't expect the best.
Consider purchasing an SSD in the future, they're expensive but increase performance and speed.
Watch youtube videos on how to overclock and switch graphics cards.

For that price you should grab it and run thru security. Great little gaming rig, I use my R2 all the time for quick gaming and you tube stuff. ;) There is nothing the size that can touch it. And you can allways buy the extended warranty, you know about those right  and your covered.

The R1 is faster than my E1705 was and nobody would say to use that for "light" stuff when it was new. Yeah, compared the R1 is no screamer but its perfectly capable since software hasn't changed that much (other than Win7 and Adobe).

That's a steal - go for it! The backlit keyboard is a great feature not found in many laptops (you can set it to only the keyboard lit up in white if you want a businesslike/conservative look). I'm typing in the dark right now. :)

If that's true, I gotta get me a job at Best Buy. Are you kidding? I'd buy two or three at that price.

For $240 you don't even need to read on the hinge issues tbh. Yes, there are major issues with the hinges - but for $240 you might as well remove the lid completely, forget about the hinges and use the remains as a powerful "gaming keyboard, all-in-one". :D

    Get it. Now.

And the Core 2 Duo is no slouch either. It's not the fastest cutting edge processor, but it works quite well, especially OC'd. There's not many games it's can't play (even GTA4, which is a pig, plays acceptably. Not perfect, but playable). And everyday tasks are just fine. I paid around 660 for mine and it's been worth every penny.

Buy the M11x for that price. Buy as many as you possibly can.

Even if you will not keep the M11x, buy as many as you can for $240, and then sell them on eBay. You will turn over a few hundred bucks per unit.

Well they only sent us two, and one of the other employees is grabbing the floor model up, I'm getting the new-in-box one. I've heard bad things about the hinges from a co-worker, but I can buy Black Tie Protection through Geek Squad for dirt cheap (employee discount ftw) and have them fix it when something happens. Thanks for the feedback guys, I'll be reading some stickies and whatnot for now. When I pick it up and take it home, I'll post from it :)

Hinges will be covered by Dell regardless of warranty date, at least that's what the last bit of info said.

Just buy as many as you have money and supply last. Then just sell them on ebay. I believe you'll get at least 400 for each.
